PARKLAND, Wash. – The Pacific men's tennis team won its fourth straight match since returning from Florida and picked up its seventh consecutive Northwest Conference victory with an 8-1 win at Pacific Lutheran Friday.
The Boxers (10-1 NWC, 12-5 overall) have won every doubles match during the current win streak and took every set in Friday's tilt, with the exception of an abbreviated No. 6 singles match.
Evan Liu (Sr., Portland, Ore.), making his first appearance on the court this season, dropped an 8-4 single-set match to PLU's Kyle McKee after the team dual had long since been decided. Liu teamed up with former Sunset High School teammate
Eric Furuya (Fr., Portland, Ore.) in the No. 3 doubles flight to take down Christopher Erkkila and Zach Blakeslee 8-5 as the Boxers won their 12
th consecutive doubles match. With Liu inserted in No. 6, Furuya bumped up to No. 5 singles and defeated Blakeslee 6-3, 6-1.
The Boxers' most dominating win came from
Giancarlo Battaglia (Fr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) in the No. 3 singles flight with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Noel Oteng-Mensah. Battaglia and
Troy Zuroske (So., Richland, Wash.) won a competitive No. 1 doubles clash, 8-5 over Daniel Cotton and Luke Olson. Zuroske swept Cotton 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 singles.
Brandon Schlack (Fr., Long Beach, Calif.) extended Pacific's longest individual winning streak to six games with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ramond DeLeon. Schlack and
Spencer Hing (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) have now won five straight matches in the No. 2 doubles flight after dispatching DeLeon and Colton Heath 8-3. Hing took care of business in the No. 2 singles showdown with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Olson.
Ranked No. 11 in the latest West Region poll, Pacific will conclude the regular season and honor five senior players at Holce Tennis Courts on Saturday in a noon matchup against Linfield.
