Women's Tennis Wraps Regular Season With Sweep Of PLU

FOREST GROVE – Pacific wrapped up the 2012 regular season just like they began it Friday as the Boxers did not give up a set in a 9-0 sweep of Pacific Lutheran in Northwest Conference women's tennis action at the Holce Tennis Courts.
 
The Boxers pulled through a series of three closely contested doubles matches to take the early 3-0 lead.  Cathlene Goya (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii) and Megan Yoshimoto (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) improved to an impressive 9-4 as a No. 1 doubles tandem with an 8-5 victory over Leah Newell & Tina Aarsvold. 
 
Lillian Do (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) and Kelsey Trujillo (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) improved to 8-4 in the No. 2 flight with an 8-6 victory over Cora Wigen and Valery Jorgensen.  Rachel Mizuno (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) and Amber Craviotto (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) made it a clean sweep with an 8-5 win at the No. 3 flight over Katherine Patton and Catherine Miolla.  Mizuno and Craviotto finished the year with a 6-6 record.
 
Pacific saw two singles matches go to tiebreakers in the second set.  Yoshimoto was challenged by Newell in the No. 2 flight, but Yoahimoto won 7-4 in the tiebreaker to win 7-5, 7-6 and improve to 8-5 on the season.  Craviotto also went to a second set tiebreaker with Miolla, but pulled through to win the No. 6 match 6-3, 7-6.
 
Goya allowed just one game to Wigen to score a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 1 match and improved to 13-4 on the season,  Mizuno was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Aarsvold at No. 3.  Trujillo picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Allison McClure and Do was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Patton.  Do concluded her freshman season at 7-6.
 
Pacific concludes the 2012 season at 7-10, 6-6 NWC, while Pacific Lutheran finishes at 1-16, 0-11 NWC.
 
The season is now over for all but the Boxers' two seniors.  Goya and Yoshimoto have both been invited to participate in the Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament, which takes place Apr. 24-29 in southern California.  The tournament gives the pair the potential to advance as individuals to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
