FOREST GROVE – Cool and rainy conditions did little to keep athletes from turning in top performances Friday as seven meet records, six stadium records and one national age group record fell on the first day of the fifth annual Pacific Twilight meet, held at Lincoln Park Stadium.

Four of those meet records and three of the stadium marks came in the evening's distance events.  Andria Scheese opened the record parade with her meet and stadium mark of 4:29.79 in the women's 1,500 meters.  Four men eclipsed the records in the men's 1,500 meters, with Matthew Clowes ducking five seconds under the previous mark with his winning time of 3:46.38.

Andrew Landstrom of Concordia (Ore.) shattered the meet and stadium record in the men's 5,000 meters.  His time of 14:37.13 paced three athletes who finished under 15 minutes.  Mike Blackmore of the Bowerman Athletic Club used the opportunity to set a USATF national 50-54 age group record in the 5,000 meters.  Once verified, his time of 15:16.77 will eclipse the former mark of 15:41.67 set by Mike Heffernan set in 1991.

Clark College's Katarina Mueller set both the meet and stadium record in the women's 10,000 meters with her time of 37:43.17.  Brian Bragg of Eastern Oregon shattered the men's 10,000-meter record by nearly two minutes, winning with a time of 30:48.10, which automatically qualifies him for the NAIA National Championships.

Records were also set in both hammer competitions and in the men's javelin.  Concordia's Sharayah Kenady put together the NAIA's second best mark of the season in the women's hammer to set a meet and stadium record of 184 feet, 9 inches.  Teammate Bo Johnson set new records in the men's hammer with his mark 190 feet, 7 inches.  In the men's javelin, Ryan Brandel of Team Reddaway threw the 28th best mark in the nation to date with his record toss of 231 feet, 6 inches.  The effort set meet and stadium records by over five meters.

The host Pacific track and field team had their best effort in the men's triple jump.  Kelson Kawai (So., North Kohala, Hawaii) finished second with a mark of 42 feet, 8.75 inches on his only legal attempt of the competition.  Jilinda Franklin (Jr., Fort Jones, Calif.) set a personal best in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:56.81 and Jerry Sanchez (Jr., Mecca, Calif.) finished 10th in his first ever men's steeplechase in a time of 10:07.99.

Field events for day two of the Pacific Twilight will begin Saturday at 10 a.m., with running events commencing at 10:30.
