Summers’ Saves Not Enough To Help Boxers In Loss

PARKLAND, Wash.-
Michael Summers (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) tallied 10 saves as the Pacific men's soccer team was shutout by Pacific Lutheran 2-0 at Pacific Lutheran's soccer field on Sunday afternoon.
After five saves by Summers, Jordan Downing scored the game-winning goal for the Lutes in the 37
th minute when he fired between the posts to the back of the net.
The Boxers only took two shots in the first half, both coming from
Nick Rudella (Jr., Sammamish, Wash.). In the 14
th minute, Rudella fired but was saved by Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper Joe Rayburn. Rudella's second shot came in the 31
st minute, but was wide.
Pacific Lutheran would score again in the 55
th as Emmanuel Armarh crossed to Brenden Cohen, who fired past Summers to cap the scoring at 2-0.
The Boxers best opportunities in the second half came from
Jorge Mandujano (So., Corneilus, Ore.) in the 52
nd minute. Mandujano kick from the corner and then shot, but was saved by Rayburn. Mandujano would kick from the corner again and
Antonio Madeddu (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.) would fire, but once again Rayburn collected the save.
The Lutes outshot the Boxers 19-7. Rudella led the Boxers with three shots. Summers (2-5-0) recorded the loss between the posts. Rayburn tallied four saves for the Lutes.
The Boxers return to Forest Grove for more Northwest Conference action as they host Whitman on Saturday and Whitworth on Sunday. Both of the matches will begin at 2:30 p.m.
