Boxers Come Home With Victory

WHITTIER, Calif.- After holding a tie with Redlands on Friday, Pacific the women's soccer team ended their two-game California trip with a 2-0 victory over Whittier Sunday morning at Graham Field.
The Boxers found the back of the net in the fourth minute after a foul, which gave Pacific a free kick. Kaeli Laxson (Jr., Nampa, Idaho) kicked the free kick out of bounds, giving Whittier goalkeeper Shauna Falch a free kick. Falch's kick ended up at the feet of Kaitlyn Harper (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.), who then crossed to Sarah Tuffey (Sr., Valencia, Calif.) who fired to the right side of the net.
The Boxers put pressure on the Poets for the next five minutes, shooting three times before recording the second goal of the game. Emily Tuffey (So., Valencia, Calif.) collected her first goal of the season on a cross from sister Sarah in the ninth minute.
Whittier outshot the Boxers 13-10 but could not find the back of the net. Their best opportunity came in 18th minute on a Rose Marie Orlando shot which was shut down by goalkeeper Kayla Davidson (Jr., Kailua Kona, Hawaii).
Davidson (1-0) collected her first win of the season between the posts. She collected seven saves, recording four in the first half. Emily Tuffey led the Boxers offensively with two shots. The Boxers shot 10 times with five shots on goal.
The Boxers return back to the Northwest to wrap-up their non-conference play next weekend at Northwest Christian on Saturday with the match beginning at 1 p.m. They will then play their 2012 home opener against Oregon Tech on Sunday with the match starting at noon.
