FOREST GROVE – A pair of 13-kill efforts by
Marie Rewick (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) and
Alexa Block (Sr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) allowed Pacific to continue their undefeated Northwest Conference run Friday as the Boxers posted a three-set sweep over Lewis & Clark, 25-15, 25-22, 25-19, in volleyball action at the Stoller Center.
The hitting tandem led a strong offensive night that saw the Boxers (3-7, 3-0 NWC) hit .204 for the match to go along with six blocks and nine service aces. Pacific did not trail until early in the third set.
Mariah McHolland (Jr., Renton, Wash.) added nine kills to go along with four aces and three blocks.
Emily Farnham (Fr., University Place, Wash.) added 34 assists and
Becky Sheller (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) finished with 20 digs.
Brigitte Russo led Lewis & Clark (4-8, 0-3 NWC) with eight kills as the Pioneers used a strong third set to raise their team hitting percentage to .107. Alicia Callejo-Black and Jennifer Dowdy added five kills apiece. Leia Matsunaga finished with 21 assists and Elena Hoff collected five digs.
Pacific jumped out of the gate in a fast paced first set, building a 13-6 lead on a Lewis & Clark attack error. The Pioneers came back to within 16-9 on a Pacific attack error, but the Boxers rebounded to take the 20-11 lead on a McHolland kill. A string of two
Haley Bedell (So., Bothell, Wash.) aces made it a 10-point lead as the Boxers went on to the victory. Pacific finished hitting .346 in the frame.
A combination of strong serving by Farnham and five L&C errors allowed the Boxers to open the second set with a 7-1 lead. The Pioneers stayed with it, cutting the lead to 10-9 on a Pacific attack error. Pacific rebounded to go up 16-11 on another McHolland kill, but L&C challenged late to come within 22-20. A kill by Rewick and at attack error made it a 24-21 lead and Rewick closed the match with another kill for the 25-22 win.
After Pacific took an early lead in the third set, Lewis & Clark rallied to take their first lead of the match, 4-3, on a pair of Boxers' attack errors. The Pioneers made it a 13-10 game on a Russo kill before the Boxers climbed back in control. McHolland gave Pacific the lead back for good at 15-14 as the Boxers allowed the Pioneers just two more points off of their own serve. A strong of five straight points, bolstered by two
Tiana Greenhalgh (Fr., Yucaipa, Calif.) aces gave Pacific a 22-16 lead enroute to the win.
Pacific will face its biggest conference challenge to date tomorrow night, hosting No. 10 ranked Puget Sound at the Stoller Center.
