Late Goal Not Enough for Boxers

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.- Pacific's Mark Watson (So., Clackamas, Ore.) scores first career goal with less than nine minutes left in the game, but is not enough to get past Cal Lutheran in 2-1 loss at Rolland Stadium.

A minute before the goal, Watson had come into replace Alex Arrington (So., Portland, Ore.). Pacific's offense wasn't seeing much action late in the second half until Ian Farley (So., Spokane, Wash.) found Watson in the 82nd minute. Watson controlled the ball, getting into position to put the ball between the posts, into the back of the net, putting them one goal away from overtime. Pacific would not get another shot off in the final seven minutes.

Cal Lutheran seemed to control much of the game outshooting the Boxers 18-12. The Kingsmen opened the 29th minute finding the back of the of the net on an unassisted shot by Raul Yepez. Their second goal came in the second half, in the 60th minute on another unassisted shot by David Lee to spread the lead to 2-0. Yepez led the Kingsmen recording five shots with two shots on goal.

The Boxers ended the first half with seven shots with their best opportunity coming from Garrick Knowles (So., Roseburg, Ore.). Knowles' first shot was blocked, but created a second chance after a Kingsmen foul. The second chance was then saved by the Kingsmen goalkeeper Rey Rivera-Ramos.

Michael Summers (0-2) took the loss in the net for the Boxers, out saving Rivera-Ramos 8-7. Watson and Quintin Love (Fr., Kailua, Hawaii), making his second start for the Boxers, led the team with two shots a piece with both shots on goal.

The Boxers (0-2) play one more contest in California before returning to the Northwest. The will travel to La Verne tomorrow night, match starting at 7 p.m.
