STARTING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
The Pacific women's soccer team is heading into week two of the 2012 season with a win and a draw. The Boxers opened their season heading down to California for a two-game trip that consisted of a tough 2-2 draw against a competitive Redlands squad and an exciting 2-0 victory over Whittier. The Boxers return to the Northwest to play at Northwest Christian on Saturday and their home opener against Oregon Tech on Sunday.

BOXER BYTES
• The Boxers first trip to California since Crabtree and Joseph took over the program ended with a win and a tough draw.

Kayla Davidson earned NWC Defensive Player of the Week, earning the win in the net in a 2-0 win over Whittier, collecting seven saves. It was her first Pacific career shutout.

•Four returning Boxers shared the scoring over the week. Kaitlyn Harper scored the first goal of the season, while Kailee Green scored the tying goal against Redlands. Sisters Sarah Tuffey and Emily Tuffey each scored a goal in 2-0 victory over Whittier.

Kamryn Plechot led eight newcomers that saw action this weekend for the Boxers.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN

Northwest Christian finished in 2011 last in the Cascade Collegiate Conference with a record of 1-8 and a 1-15 overall mark. The NAIA Beacons are off to a 1-0 start to the 2012 campaign with a 4-0 win over Simpson (Calif.) on Sunday. The Beacons return Katelyn Partridge who played in 15 games with 13 starts last season, leading the team with three points and scored one goal. Brianne Lagumina returns as the only senior for the Beacons, playing in one match for the 2011 season.

OREGON TECH
Oregon Tech are picked to finish seventh in the Cascade Collegiate Conference after finishing the 2011 campaign in seventh place with a 3-6 record and 5-9-1 overall mark. The Owls kicked off the 2012 season with a 1-1 record this past weekend, with a 3-0 loss at Western Oregon on Friday and a 1-0 overtime victory against NWC conference foe George Fox on Saturday. Oregon Tech returns three All-Cascade Collegiate Conference selections including second team goalkeeper Rebekah Matteri, who played in all 15 matches, collecting 115 saves with a 2.31 goals against average, and honorable mention selections Meghan Drost and Hayley Smith. Drost and Smith led the Owls with 15 goals and 87 shots combined.

PACIFIC NEWS & NOTES
CALIFORNIA DREAMIN:
The 2012 opening weekend was a trip to Southern California, marking the first trip since the First Southland husband and wife tandem of Crabtree and Joseph took over the program in 2010. The Boxers took advantage of the weather by coming home with a win and a draw. The opener of the 2012 campaign was a tough match against Redlands, ending in a 2-2 draw. Two days later the Boxers showed they can handle the California heat by capping off the trip with a 2-0 victory against Whittier.

DAVIDSON SAVES THE DAY:  Kayla Davidson (Jr., Kailua Kona, Hawaii) was selected as the NWC Defensive Player of the Week after collecting her first career shutout against Whittier on Sunday. She tallied seven saves on the match, with four coming in the first half. Whittier outshot the Boxers 13-10, but Davidson was able to write off the Poets, sending the Boxers back to the Northwest with a victory. She enters the week leading the NWC in three statistical categories including save percentage (1.000), goals against (0) and goals against average (0.00). She also comes in third with her seven saves against Whittier.

RETURNERS STEPPING UP: Four returners shared the scoring over the weekend for the Boxers. Kaitlyn Harper (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.) scored the first goal of the season on Friday against Redlands on a cross from Kamryn Plechot (So., La Plama, Calif.) to take a 1-0 lead over the tough Bulldogs. Kailee Green (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) would go onto score her first goal of the season by a game-tying goal with a high shot that was deflected in the top right of the net making the score 2-2.  

Sisters Sarah Tuffey (Sr., Valencia, Calif.) and Emily Tuffey (So., Valencia, Calif.) both scored their first goals of the season against Whittier on Sunday to lead the Boxers to a 2-0 victory. Sarah Tuffey collected her first game winning goal for the season scoring in the fourth minute off a cross from Kaitlyn Harper. Emily Tuffey would score just five minutes later on a cross from her sister, which capped the scoring for the game.

NEWCOMERS SHOWING: Eight newcomers saw action over the weekend, with five newcomers starting at least one of the matches. Kamryn Plechot (So., La Palma, Calif.), a transfer from Vanguard University, started both games and led the young newcomers, collecting her first assist as a Boxers, helping score the first goal of the season. Plechot crossed to Kaitlyn Harper, who would on to score her first goal of the season.

Rachael Pratt (Fr., Bremerton, Wash.), Dani McMurray (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) Chantal Gustine (Fr., Kalispell, Mont.), Lyndsey Watanabe (Fr., Waipahu, Hawaii) all started at least one match over the weekend. Nicholle Leeming (Fr., Las Vegas Nev.), Morgan McClincy (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.), McKenna Davidson (Fr., Kailua Kona, Hawaii) all saw more than  30 minutes of action.

PACIFIC PICKED FIFTH IN NWC POLL: Northwest Conference coaches have picked Pacific to place fifth according to the league's preseason poll released in August. The Boxers received 36 of a possible 80 points in the poll, beating out Whitman, Pacific Lutheran, George Fox and Lewis & Clark. Pacific finished fifth in the conference standings in 2011, after a fifth place selection in the preseason poll. Puget Sound was the favorite to win a eleventh straight conference title. The Loggers earned six first place votes and 66 points. Linfield (56 pts.) came in second place in the poll, scoring three first place votes.
