THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. –
Alexa Block (Sr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) put a surge in the Pacific offense Friday, but it was not enough as the Boxers dropped both of their matches on the first day of the Cal-Lu-Fornia Volleyball Invitational on the campus of Cal Lutheran University. Both of Pacific's Friday matches were played in the Soiland Recreation Center Gymnasium.
Block combined for 19 kills in the two matches as the Boxers (0-4) dropped a three-set decision to Chapman and a four-set match to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
CHAPMAN DEF. PACIFIC 25-19, 25-13, 25-15
Pacific played their strongest volleyball against Chapman in the first set, finishing with a .182 hitting percentage. The Panthers went on to take the closely contested frame, and then proceeded to roll in the final two sets. Pacific dropped to a flat .000 percentage in the second set before rebounding to .053 in the third frame.
Block led the Boxers with 10 kills.
Mariah McHolland (Jr., Renton, Wash.),
Haley Bedell (So., Bothell, Wash.) and
Marie Rewick (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) each finished with six kills, with Rewick collecting a .214 hitting percentage.
Emily Farnham (Fr., University Place, Wash.) had 29 assists and
Becky Sheller (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) added 14 digs.

CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS DEF. PACIFIC 25-19, 22-25, 25-11, 25-16
For the first time in the young season, Pacific relied upon a pair of returners to lead the way as McHolland and Block paced the Boxers in the four-set loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
McHolland led Pacific with 10 kills and amassed a .240 hitting percentage to go along with a pair of blocks. Block, meanwhile, finished with nine kills in the loss. Pacific's .107 team hitting percentage for the match was their best in four matches this season. Rewick added seven kills.
Pacific kept pace with the Athenas (5-1) in the opening set before pulling through for just their second set victory of the season in the second frame with 25-22 win. Momentum did not stay on the Boxers' side in the third set as they finished with just seven kills and a .000 hitting percentage. Claremont went on to cruise as well in the fourth set.

Pacific will complete it's run at the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational on Saturday. The Boxers will play host Cal Lutheran at 2 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. match with La Verne.
