Sophomores Step Up to Hold Beacons to Draw
Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, Ore.- Three sophomores stepped up for the Pacific women's soccer team as they continued to hold an undefeated mark after a tough 0-0 tie against Northwest Christian on Saturday at Mike Kelly field.
Kamryn Plechot (So., La Palma, Calif.), Linnette Jessop (So., Sparks, Nev.) and Chandler Bowen (So., Silverdale, Wash.) provided a solid outing for the Boxers to hold the Beacons to zero goals.
Plechot had the best scoring opportunity for the match in the 85th minute, but the shot ended up hitting the crossbar. Plechot led the Boxers in the midfield position, collecting three shots.
“Plechot had another outstanding game,” said Associate Head Coach Dane Joseph. “She has been a rock in the middle of the park and we anticipate it being that way for a long time to come.”
Jessop provided a solid defensive performance for the Boxers, helping to shutout the Beacons. The Beacons tallied 16 shots with only three shots on goal in 110 minutes. “We are so happy for Linnette. She has struggled with some injuries but has fought her way throughout last year and this year with a positive attitude,” said Joseph. “Her technical brilliance, game intelligence, and outstanding tactical awareness was absolutely needed today.”
Bowen also stepped up for the Boxers in the midfield position, shooting twice with one shot on goal. Her best opportunity was in overtime in the 97th minute, but was saved by Beacon goalkeeper Kristen Fulbright. “Bowen's patience and prudence was exemplary of a seasoned pro,” said Joseph. “We look forward to watching her continue to grow.”
Pacific had a tough match physically trying to stop the Beacons, but held a solid defense to come out with a draw. Sarah Tuffey (Sr., Valencia, Calif.) led the Boxers with seven shots with only one shot on goal. Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.) collected the draw between the posts, recording three saves through 110 minutes.
The Boxers (1-0-2) return to Forest Grove for their home opener tomorrow against the Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls. The match begins at noon.
