FOREST GROVE -  Pacific showed tremendous effort against a pair of well seasoned NCAA Division II opponents Friday, but the Boxers dropped both of their duals in a series of men's wrestling duals Friday at the Stoller Center.

In the opener, Pacific won five of the 10 matches against Simon Fraser, but the Clan registered pins in four of their five victories to gain the bonus points needed for a 27-22 victory over the Boxers.  In their second dual of the night, the Boxers watched San Francisco State win the first seven matches of the night as the Gators cruised to a 31-6 win.

Caleb Malychewski (Jr., Camas, Wash.) improved to 18-3 on the season and 8-2 in dual matches with his two victories of the night, which included a 15-1 major decision over Simon Fraser's Sanjay Rekhi that finished just short of a technical fall.  Malychewski was the only Pacific wrestler to finished with wins in both matches.  Ryan Baxter (So., Craig, Alaska) earned a third round pin over Simon Fraser's Dillon Hume while Nik Streng (Sr., Honolulu, Hawaii) was the recipient of a hard-fought 2-1 decision over San Francisco State's Thomas Martin.

With the losses, Pacific dropped to 5-5 on the season in dual meets.  Simon Fraser, wrestling their first full season as a NCAA Division II member, improved to 2-10 on the season while San Francisco State improved to 3-4.  The two visitors wrestled a neutral site match to open the afternoon, with San Francisco State scoring the 29-10 win.

SIMON FRASER 27, PACIFIC 22
Skylor Davis gave Simon Fraser six points right out of the gate, gaining a pin of Daylin Ruggerio (Fr., Ely, Nev.) just as time expired in the first period.  The Boxers rebounded to win four of the next six matches to seize the 18-12 lead.  Eric Harder (So., Bethesda, Md.) started the comeback with a 15-10 win over Surhan Chahal in the 133-pound bout and Baxter gave the Boxers the lead when he scored a third round pin over Hume.

Alex Stemer took the six points right back with the Clan's second pin of the night, needing 38 seconds of the second period to dispatch Will Patrick (Fr., Sitka, Alaska) at 149 pounds.  Dillon Ford (So., Montesano, Wash.) accepted the forfeit at 157 that gave the Boxers back the lead while Bruce Balcita (Jr., Myrtle Creek, Ore.) made it an 18-12 lead with his 4-1 decision over Brock Lamb in the 165-pound bout.

After Cody Coombes' decision win at  174 pounds, Malychewski gave the Boxers their biggest lead of the night at 22-15 with his 15-1 thumping of Rekhi at 184 pounds.  The victory was the 11th of the year for the junior with bonus points.

The Clan, however, closed the match out in their favor with a pair of pins in the final two matches.  Manvir Sahota brought the Clan within one with his first round pin of Streng and Sunny Dhinsa secured the win with his 2 minute, 29 second pin over Evan Schreurs (Jr., Duvall, Wash.).

SAN FRANCISCO STATE 31, PACIFIC 6
The talented Gators left little to chance in their first match against Pacific since 1999, winning the first seven matches of the night.  Marc Collier and Isaiah Hurtado opened the match with decision victories at 125 and 133 pounds before Naveed Bagheri scored the Gators' first bonus points of the match with a 15-0 technical fall over Baxter.

Conrad Snell made it a 17-0 lead with his first round pin of Will Patrick (Fr., Sitka, Alaska) and Vicente Aboytes added three more points with a 8-2 decision over Ford at 157.  Isaiah Jimenez added more bonus points with a 17-7 major decision over Balcita in the 165-pound match and A.J. Simon made it a 27-0 lead for the Gators with a 7-3 decision over Michael Tyner (So., Aloha, Ore.).

Malychewski took the zero off the Pacific side of the board with his 10-4 decision over Nicholls at 184 pounds.  Streng then provided one of the more exciting moments of the night as he avenged his pin with a 2-1 decision over Martin that was cemented in the third period when Martin was penalized for stalling.

Pacific will return to action on Sunday when they host Southwestern Oregon CC at noon, closing a three-match home stand.
