FOREST GROVE – Finding themselves down 12 points to Pacific to start the match thanks to three forfeits, Southwestern Oregon CC made up for the difference with four pins to beat the Boxers 30-25 in men's wrestling action at the Stoller Center.

The Lakers, ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Top-20 Poll, started in a theoretical 18-6 hole thanks to giving up forfeits to the Boxers at 174, 184 and 197 pounds.  Pacific gave six points back as well after having to forfeit at 157 pounds.  Southwestern Oregon made up the difference in the first two matches.

Michael Nguyen started the dual off by scoring a second pound pin over Daylin Ruggerio (Fr., Ely, Nev.) at 125 pounds and Quinn Johnston made it a 12-0 lead when he pinned Eric Harder (So., Bethesda, Md.) in just two seconds less than Nguyen did at 125.

Ryan Baxter (So., Craig, Alaska) earned the Boxers' first win of the afternoon in dominating fashion at 141 pounds, pulling away from a 2-2 tie with a reversal and a pair of nearfalls in the second round enroute to a 13-2 major decision over Kyle Johnston.  The victory allowed Baxter to improve to 2-1 on the weekend and 7-4 on the season.

Ryan Bullock followed by providing for the Lakers' third pin of the match over Will Patrick (Fr., Sitka, Alaska) at 149 pounds.  When added with the Boxers' forfeit at 157 pounds, the victory gave Southwestern Oregon CC the commanding 24-4 lead.

Bruce Balcita (Jr., Myrtle Creek, Ore.) put together a great comeback to give the Boxers the win in the most dramatic match of the day at 165 pounds.  Trailing 6-3 after two rounds, Balcita opened the third with an escape and came within 6-5 when Payton Moore was penalized for stalling with a minute left.  With five seconds left, Balcita earned a takedown and held on for the 7-6 win.  The victory was also the second for Balcita in three weekend matches and improved the junior to 11-6 on the year.

The three forfeits gave Pacific a narrow 25-24 lead, which included Caleb Malychewski's (Jr., Camas, Wash.) 19th win of the season at 184 pounds.  But heavyweight Tyler Wooldridge needed just 1:35 to pin Evan Schreurs (Jr., Duvall, Wash.) to secured the victory for the Lakers.

With the loss, Pacific dropped to 5-6 on the season in dual meets.  Southwestern Oregon improved to 3-4 on the year.

After 11 straight dual matches, Pacific returns to tournament action next weekend.  The Boxers will take part in the Clackamas Open on Sunday at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City.
