OREGON CITY, Ore. – Eric Harder (So., Bethesda, Md.) captured fourth place at 133 pounds, while Bruce Balcita (Jr., Myrtle Creek, Ore.) and Caleb Malychewski (Jr., Camas, Wash.) each garnered fifth place medals to lead the Pacific men's wrestling team at the Clackamas Open, held Sunday at Randall Hall.

Harder was one of two Pacific wrestlers to advance to the semifinals, collecting wins over Isaac Bernard and Kyle Johnston before dropping a 9-0 decision in the semifinals match to North Idaho's Michael Carreon.  Harder rebounded to score a first round pin over Western Washington's Jake Crawford before taking a first round pin from Oregon State's Anthony Harris in the consolation final.

Harder finished with a 3-2 record in the 133-pound bracket to improve to 18-10 on the season.

Malychewski, meanwhile, eclipsed the 20-win plateau for the second time in as many seasons on his way to a fifth place finish in the 184-pound bracket.  The 20th victory came in Malychewski's opening match, a 7-5 decision over Nick Gill of Baller WC.  The junior then took his first back-to-back losses of the season, dropping an 11-4 decision to North Idaho's Caleb Rivera in the semifinals and a 3-1 decision to Menlo's Erick Parsons in the consolation semifinal.

Malychewski awaited a rematch with Gill in the fifth place match and Malychewski prevailed in a 5-2 decision.  The 2-2 record in the tournament improves Malychewski to 21-5 on the season.

Balcita wrestled more than any Pacific grappler, going 4-2 to attain his fifth place finish in the 165-pound bracket.  Balcita advanced to the semifinals thanks to a pair of pins of Clackamas' Kolby Mays and Southwestern Oregon's Simon Esparaza in the opening two rounds and an 11-1 major decision over Central Washington's Nick Bendon in the quarterfinals.  The run ended in the semifinals with a 6-1 loss to Oregon State's Seth Thomas.

The consolation semifinals was close against another Oregon State wrestler, but Balcita could not overcome Toney Chay in a 6-3 loss.  Balcita secured fifth place with a 10-9 decision over Sam Sepehripour of the Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club.

Nine of Pacific's 12 competing wrestlers won at least one match and six wrestlers won two matches or more.  Allin Franco (Fr., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) and Ryan Baxter (So., Craig, Alaska) each won two matches in the 141-pound weight class while Dillon Ford (So., Montesano, Wash.) won three match in the 157-pound bracket.

Pacific will return to dual meet action on Thursday, hosting interstate rival Southern Oregon at the Stoller Center at 6:30 p.m.  A live video webcast of the dual will be available at goboxers.com.  Pacific will then host the Boxer Open at the Stoller Center on Sunday.
