PORTLAND, Ore. – Chris Johnson (Jr., Everett, Wash.) was a winner in the men's shot put in Pacific's first ever sanctioned indoor track and field competition Tuesday night as the Boxers sent a small contingent to the University of Portland's Tuesday Night at the Races, held at the Chiles Center.

Johnson led a 14-man field in the men's shot put, winning by nearly three feet with his mark of 41 feet, 0.5 inches, which was a personal best for the junior indoors or outdoors.  He was Pacific's only winner of the night in the low-key competition, which is conducted by USA Track & Field's Oregon long distance running section.

Sean Valente (So., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) led the Pacific sprinters competing in the event, placing fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.35 seconds.  Spencer Wilson (So., La Pine, Ore.) finished one place behind in a time of 24.53 seconds.  Tyler Shipley (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) placed eighth as the only men's competitor in the 2,000 meters, running a time of 5:45.99.

Newcomer Sara Davidson (Fr., St. Paul, Ore.) led the Pacific women with a second place finish in the shot put, finishing with a mark of 32 feet, 9 inches.  Katie Rock (Fr., Seattle, Wash.) placed fourth in the competition with a mark of 29 feet, 8 inches.

Sidney Davis (Fr., Redmond, Ore.) led the women's efforts on the track, placing fifth in the 2,000 meters with a time of 7:40.03.  Alexis Damo (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) placed eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.45 seconds.

Tuesday's meet was the first in a series of six indoor meets scheduled for the Boxers, three of which will be part of the Tuesday indoor series at the Chiles Center.  While Pacific athletes have competed in indoor meets over the years, most notably in the 1970s and 1990s, this is the first year that indoor track and field has been an officially recognized sport at the university.

Pacific will compete in its first full scale indoor meet of the season on Saturday, traveling to Moscow, Idaho to take part in the Vandal Collegiate meet at the Kibbie Dome.
