Jensen’s Sixth Double-Double Not Enough For Boxers

Paige Jensen (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season as the Pacific women's basketball team suffered only their third loss of the season in a 69-54 decision by Whitman on Saturday evening at the Stoller Center.
Jensen scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, shooting 5 of 15 from the field in 30 minutes of play.
Alex Pfefferle (Jr., Twin Falls, Idaho) added nine points, making 3 of 9 from the field and 1 of 3 beyond the arc.
Erica Colter (Sr., Kennewick, Wash.) also added nine points and she collected three steals and three assists in 28 minutes of play.
Anuhea Wall (So., Kealakekua, Hawaii) came off the bench to score nine points, shooting 3 of 7 from the field.
Heather Hitch (Sr., Enumclaw, Wash.) helped the Boxers, scoring seven points and collected four rebounds.
The Boxers controlled the first eight minutes of play, opening the game with a trey from Pfefferle. The Boxers would increase the lead to five at 16:14 after a jumper by Jensen to put the Boxers up 9-4. The Boxers would hold there biggest lead by six at 15:20 after a jumper by Wall and again lead by six at 14:30 after two free throw shots by wall, putting the Boxers up 13-7.
The Missionaries began to control the rest of the game as Heather Johns scored two with 13 minutes left to play in the first half. The Missionaries would take their first lead of the game at 11:47 after a made layup from Hailey Maeda. The Missionaries went on a 7-0 run before Colter sunk two free throws to bring the Boxers back within five, 20-15. Hitch would sink one of two free throws at 7:58 to bring the Boxers within four, but the Missionaries would take an eight-point lead with less than seven minutes to play in the first half, leading the Boxers 24-16.
The Missionaries took their biggest lead in the first half at 1:41 left to play as Sarah Anderegg scored two for the Missionaries, putting them up 35-22. The Boxers headed into the second half, trailing by 10 after a jumper from
Nani Ostrom (So., Juneau, Alaska).
After a foul by Missionaries Meghan White,
Kaila Johnson (So., McKinleyville, Calif.) made both free throws to open the second half for the Boxers. The Boxers would cut the lead to four at 14:06 after a trey from Colter, Jensen with the assist. But the Missionaries kept pushing the points leading by 12 with 10 minutes left to play in regulation.
With five minutes left to play, Jensen cut the Missionaries lead to 11 with a made layup, but Mary Madden responded for the Missionaries putting the Boxers up by 14 at 4:42, Missionaries leading 59-45. The Boxers would trail by 12 with less than three minutes to play after a technical foul was called on Sarah Anderegg. Pfefferle took the opportunity and sunk both free throws for the Boxers. The Boxers would score one last time before the end of the game. Colter made a layup to bring the Boxers within 13 with 1:23 left to play. The Missionaries responded with jumper with 50 seconds left.
The Boxers shot 31.7 percent from the field (20 of 63) and was 23.1 percent from beyond the arc (3 of 13). The Boxers forced 17 Missionarie turnovers and collected 10 steals, turning over the ball 12 times themselves. The Boxers were outrebounded by the Missionaries 42-33.
The Boxers are now 9-3 overall, 2-2 in Northwest Conference action. Next week, they will travel to Pacific Lutheran on Friday and return to Forest Grove to play host to rival Linfield. Both tip offs start at 6:00 p.m.
