Boxers Make It Three In A Row With Four Set Win Over Pios

Una Areta (Fr., Kent, Wash.) led the Pacific volleyball team with 24 kills and collected their third straight win, taking a 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 26-28, 25-20) win over Lewis & Clark on Friday evening in Northwest Conference action at the Stoller Center.

The Boxers took a 6-2 run in the first set after an attacking error by Lewis & Clark and kills by
Mariah McHolland (Sr., Renton, Wash.). The Boxers took their largest lead, 19-13 after a kill from
Hannah Smargiassi (So., Tualatin, Ore.).
Jamie Steach (Fr., Pasco, Wash.) took the final kill for the Boxers to take the first set 25-19.

The next set proved to be much the same between the Pioneers and the Boxers. The match was tied at 10-10 before the Pioneers took the lead after kills by Kelsie Dorpat and Kataleya Milan. A kill by McHolland boosted the Boxers to tie the match back up at 16-16. The Pioneers came back and only score three more points in the set as Areta helped the Boxers with three kills from
Emily Farnham (So., University Place, Wash.).

The third set was a tough set for the Boxers. The Pioneers came out fired up and took a 5-3 lead in the beginning of the set. Hanna Herbert (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) and Areta helped the Boxers gain momentum back to tie the set up at 16-16. Late in the set, the Boxers were down 19-18, but two back-to-back kills from Areta put the Boxers back on top 21-19. The rest of the set was back an fourth and kills from Kataleya Milan and Alicia Callejo-Black won the set for the Pioneers pushing the match into a fourth set.

In the fourth set, the Boxers regained their momentum taking their largest lead of the evening 20-13 after a kill by Steach. Areta and McHolland teamed up on kills at the end to take the final set 25-20.

Farnham ended up with 49 assists. McHolland tallied 13 kills, while Steach came up with 10.
Becky Sheller (So., Gresham, Ore.) had a stellar performance in the back row, collecting 30 digs. Areta and
Kylee Oshiro (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii) each picked up 10 digs.

The Boxers (5-9, 4-3 NWC) are on the road for their next two matches, traveling to Puget Sound tomorrow. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
