TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific women's soccer team had opportunities to score that came in the second period, but couldn't come up with a goal as they were shutout 2-0 by Puget Sound in Northwest Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Puget Sound's East Athletic Field.

"We've now seen every team in our conference," said head coach Morgan Joseph. "Whether win, lose, or draw, we now have a crack at each of them again. The big thing is to move in from today and focus for Wednesday."

Of Pacific's five shots, Kara Lankey (Fr., La Canada, Calif.) and Lucy Almao (Fr., Orange County, Calif.) each shot twice. Holly Chang-Northway (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) shot once but was wide of the goal.

Lankey's first opportunity came in the 78th minute, but was saved by Puget Sound's goalkeeper Lauren Thomas. Her second opportunity was so close to going in, but hit the crossbar. Almao's opportunities came in the 66th minute, the first shot for the Boxers, and her second came in the 77th minute, but was saved.

"Kara had a great look on goal and hit the crossbar," said Morgan Joseph. "We look to continue to build into Wednesday's game and get more service to the forwards."

Puget Sound (7-2-2, 5-1-2 NWC) scored both of their goals in the first half. The first goal came in the 8th minute of the match off a cross from Annie Jonsson to an open Kylie Beeson. The second goal came in the 29th minute, when Meghan Ellis shot, but was saved by Boxer keeper Kayla Davidson (Sr., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii), but rebounded back to Lauren Swanson, who kicked it to the back of the net.

Davidson (6-3-2) suffered the loss between the pipes, tallying seven saves. Lauren Thomas collected the win with two saves. "Kayla was outstanding today," said associate head coach Dane Joseph. "She was off her line on three one on one's to stop them cold. She had tips from crosses and stopped a handful of shots that could have easily gone in. Kudos to her on such a brilliant performance."

The Boxers drop to 7-3-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the Northwest Conference. They will return home this week with a match against rival Linfield on Wednesday. The match will begin at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at goboxers.com.
