NEWBERG, Ore. – Una Areta (Fr., Kent, Wash.) had another impressive hitting night, but her performance was not enough to counterbalance some more impressive runs by George Fox Wednesday night as the Bruins won in four sets, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-13, in Northwest Conference volleyball action at the Wheeler Sports Center.

Areta led all players with a double-double of 20 kills and 12 digs to go along with a .213 hitting percentage.  But the Bruins beat the Boxers with long scoring runs, including ones of 11 and eight points in the final set that took all of the wind out of the Boxers' sails.

Emily Farnham (So., University Place, Wash.) added 33 assists while Becky Sheller (So., Gresham, Ore.) contributed 17 digs in the loss for the Boxers (5-11, 4-5 NWC).

George Fox (9-8, 4-5 NWC) hit .239 for the night and saw four players hit in double figures.  Erin Campbell led the way with 19 kills and 13 digs,  Kylee Adderson added 11 kills while Brooke Sturdevant and Tiffany Burk each had 10 kills.  Payton Shrum added 44 assists and Chelsea Wilson had 22 digs.

After George Fox took the early lead in the opening set, the Boxers charged back to make a game of it.  The Bruins held as much as a 9-6 lead before a back-to-back Farnham dumps put the Boxers up 12-10.  The lead seesawed a number of time until  Jamie Steach's (Fr., Pasco, Wash.) started a run of four unanswered points that pulled the Boxers away from a 21-21 tie to a 25-21 victory.

Both teams traded runs in the second set.  An early seven-point run by the Bruins, buoyed by four Pacific attack errors, allowed for a 10-5 lead.  The Boxers later had a six-point rally of their own, fueled by four George Fox miscues, to tie the frame at 16-16.  The Bruins would nearly close things out with a run, using a four-point rally to pull away from a 21-21 tie for the eventual 25-22 victory.

Third set proved close until late, when the Bruins went on a six-point run to pull away from a 15-15 tie.  A pair of service aces made it a 21-15 George Fox lead and the Boxers wouldn't score again off their own serve in the 25-18 Bruins' victory.

The fourth set looked to be going the Boxers' way, building an 11-5 lead on a Bruins' service error.  But the Bruins went on a pair of incredible runs that decimated Pacific's chances.  The first was an 11-point rally, fueled by three kills each by Campbell and Adderson, which erased the Pacific lead and built a 16-11 Bruins' advantage.

The second closed the match as George Fox scored the final eight points, four of those points coming on two kills each by Adderson and Sturdevant, that closed out the 25-13 rout.

Pacific returns home to the Stoller Center on Friday night, hosting No. 16 Pacific Lutheran at 7 p.m.
