Boxers Give Up Second Half Goals In Loss To Wildcats

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Pacific men's soccer team scored two game-tying goals in the first half, but gave up two goals in the second period, suffering a 4-2 loss to Linfield in Northwest Conference action at Linfield's soccer field on Saturday afternoon.
 
Linfield took at 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute of the match, but the Boxers tied the match up in the 19th minute when Garrick Knowles (Jr., Roseburg, Ore.) gained control from close range and kicked it straight to the Wildcat keeper. The ball bounced off his hands and into the goal. The goal marked Knowles third goal of the season.
 
Linfield came back in the 37th minute with another goal to take a 2-1 lead, but the Boxers, again, came back with a tying goal right before half. In the 41st minute and after a Linfield foul, Jorge Mandujano (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) took the Boxers' free kick to the back of the net to tie the match up at 2-2. Mandujano's goal marks his third goal on the season.
 
The Wildcats came back in the second half to score to goals to claim a 4-2 victory. Brian DeGrandmont and Nicholas Autencio scored the two goals, four minutes apart of each other in the 53rd minute and the 57th minute.
 
Michael Summers (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) suffered the loss between the pipes, giving up four goals and tallying six saves. Linfeld's Grant Loriaux collected the victory, tallying four saves. Nick Rudella (Sr., Sammamish, Wash.) led the Boxers with four shots, two shots on goal. Mandujano tallied three of the Boxers' 12 shots.
 
The Boxers drop to 6-7-1 overall on the season and 1-6-1 in the Northwest Conference. The Boxers will travel to Willamette tomorrow. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m.
