FOREST GROVE – Three Pacific players finished with double-digit kills Saturday, but the effort was not enough for the Boxers to complete a comeback as they fell in five sets to Linfield, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 17-25, 15-12, in Northwest Conference volleyball action at the Stoller Center.

After winning the first set, the Boxers fell on the losing end of hard-fought second and third sets.  Pacific posted their best hitting performance of the match in the fourth set, but could not dig out of a 7-1 deficit in the fifth set.

Una Areta (Fr., Kent, Wash.) led the Boxers with a double-double of 23 kills and 16 digs.  Mariah McHolland (Sr., Renton, Wash.) added 15 kills and three blocks while Hannah Herbert (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) had 11 kills.  Emily Farnham (So., University Place, Wash.) finished with a double-double of 51 assists and 12 digs while Becky Sheller (So., Gresham, Ore.) had 29 digs.

Kailana Ritte-Camara paced Linfield with a double-double of 27 kills and 15 digs.  Victoria Thompson added 17 kills and Sam Hammons finished with 10.  Casie Gaza finished with 32 assists and 13 digs and Courtney Wanamaker finished with 37 digs.

Pacific (7-14, 6-8 NWC) rallied from as much as a six-point deficit to win the first set.  Linfield took a 14-8 lead on a block by Ritte-Camara and Suzanne Dahl before the Boxers pulled even at 20-20 on a Herbert kill.  The set was tied at 21-21 before the Boxers won four of the final five rallies, including the final on a block by Areta and McHolland, for the 25-22 win.

Linfield (7-11, 3-11 NWC) never trailed in the second set and built a 10-4 lead on a Pacific attack error.  The Boxers went on to win five straight points, including two on Herbert kills, to come within 10-9.  Pacific would never be able to take the lead, though, with Thompson returning the lead to four points before taking the 25-22 win.

An early Pacific lead would not hold as the Wildcats rallied to build as much as a 20-15 lead on a Pacific attack error.  The Boxers came back to within 23-21 late on a McHolland kill, but Ritte-Camara and Coppock had kills to finish off the 25-21 victory.

Pacific vaulted off to an 8-4 lead in the fourth set after a run of six points won off of Kylee Oshiro's (So., Aiea, Hawaii) serve and never looked back.  McHolland and Herbert used a kill to make it a 17-11, but the Wildcats rallied to come within 19-17 on a pair of Thompson kills.  Pacific won the final six points, three on Linfield attack errors, for the 25-17 win.

Linfield jumped out to the 7-1 lead in the fifth set, which included three Ritte-Camara kills.  Pacific did not give up, coming within 12-11 on a pair of Herbert kills, but kills by Thompson and Ritte-Camara closed out the match at 15-12.

Pacific wraps up their 2013 season next weekend.  The Boxers play at Lewis & Clark on Friday before hosting Puget Sound on Saturday.
