Clark, Porter Lead Boxers To Women’s Double Dual Win Over Bearcats And The Yotes

FOREST GROVE –Amanda Clark (Jr., Olympia, Wash.) and Katie Porter (Jr., McMinnville, Ore.) led the Pacific women's swimming team to a double dual win over Willamette and the College of Idaho on Saturday morning at the Forest Grove Aquatic Center.
 
Clark started the meet off with a first place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:51.01. She picked up two more first place finishes on the day. She swam a 5:16.19 in the 500-yard freestyle and a 2:16.17 in the 200-yard individual medley. Porter also picked up three first place finishes. She swam a 2:01.63 in her first event of the morning. In the 50-yard freestyle she swam a 25.13 seconds and in the 100-yard butterfly she swam a 59.78 second race.
 
Alex Bing* (Sr., Roseburg, Ore.) picked up two first place finishes, swimming a 1:07.66 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 2:29.68 time in the 200-yard breaststroke. Stacie Struble (So., Albany, Ore.) led the Boxers in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in second place with a time of 2:22.87. In the 200-yard backstroke, Kristine Valdez* (Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) finished the highest for the Boxers, swimming the event in a time of 2:21.47. The women also picked up a first place finish, between the two other teams, in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:54.73.
 
With the meet being scored as a double dual, the Boxers won both duals against Willamette and College of Idaho. The Boxers beat the Bearcats 177-80 and beat the Yotes 158-102.
 
On the men's side, the Boxers had a productive day claiming a tie with Willamette, both scoring 129.5 points in the dual. The Boxers lost to College of Idaho 135-114.
 
Charles Morse (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) started the day of with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:23.97. He finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.88. But the highlight of Morse's day was breaking the 500-yard freestyle record in a time of 4:55.76. The previous record, set by former swimmer Gavin Nash, was 4:58.01.
 
Michael Hargitt* (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.) was another contributor to the Boxers points this morning. He finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.50. He also picked up two second place finishes, swimming a time of 56.48 seconds in the 100-yard back stroke and a time of 2:04.04 in the 200-yard individual medley. Carter Suzuki (Fr., Wailuku, Hawaii) led the Boxers in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing second with a time of 1:04.53.
 
The women improve to 3-3 on the season while the men drop to 0-5-1. The Boxers will take almost two months off from competition and will resume dual meets on Jan. 11 when they travel to Caldwell, Idaho to take on the College of Idaho. The meet will begin at 3 p.m. The Boxers next home meet will be Jan. 18 with a dual against Linfield. The first event will start at 1 p.m.
