Geoducks Use Free Throws To Get Past Boxers

FOREST GROVE – The Pacific women's basketball team was forced to foul in the last minute of the game, but could not score in their possessions, suffering a 69-66 loss to Evergreen State College in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the Stoller Center.

The game was back and forth most of the game with 18 lead changes and 14 times the score was tied. The Geoducks started the first half off on an 8-0 run before the Boxers were able to come back.
Alex Pfefferle (Sr., Twin Falls, Idaho) made a three-pointer to start the spark for the Boxers.
Abby Jones (Jr., Haines, Alaska) cut the Geoduck lead to two with a jumper.

With 11 minutes left to play in the half, the Boxers tied the game up at 16 with a jumper from
Jonica Durbin (Jr., Seaback, Wash.). The Geoducks regained the lead, but Durbin tied the game up at 18-18 with less-than 10 minutes left to play.
Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) regained the Boxer lead with a shot from the field. The Geoducks worked their way back in the game tying the game up 25-25 with four minutes left to play.

Kaila Johnson (Jr., McKinleyville, Calif.) tied the game at 27-27 with two minutes left to play in the half and a three-pointer from
Annette Highley (Jr., Juneau, Alaska) put the Boxers ahead 32-29. The Boxers headed into the second half on top 32-31.

Brittany Gray, from Evergreen, opened the scoring to put the Geoducks up by one. But two back-to-back jumpers from
Kati Sheldon (Sr., Paso Robles, Calif.) put the Boxers ahead 36-35. A made shot from beyond the arc from
Sarah Curl (Fr., Portland, Ore.) put the Boxers up 39-37 with 15 minutes left to play. Gray tied the game up at 39-39 with two made free throw shots. A made jumper for the Geoducks put them ahead 39-41, but Jones came back with a jumper to tie the game for eighth time.

With the game getting down to the final minutes, the Boxers were looking to regain possession to take a shot to get them ahead. After a made layup from Pfefferle, the Boxers were tied at 61-61. Two made free throw shots from Gray put the Geoducks up 63-61, but Pfefferle fought back and sunk another three-pointer to put the Boxers up 64-63. Gray battled back with a made jumper and the Boxers never saw the lead again. Trying to regain possession, the Boxers had two open three-point shots, but could not get the ball into the net.

Pfefferle led the Boxers with 11 points, shooting 4 of 6 from the field and 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Durbin and Jones were right behind Pfefferle with 10 points each. Curl led the Boxers with a team-high five rebounds. The Boxers shot 45 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 70 percent from the free throw line. Evergreen State shot 42 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line.

The Boxers drop to 1-1 on the season. Evergreen State improves to 4-3. The Boxers will play their final game before the holiday tomorrow, hosting Simpson (Calif.) at 1 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available at goboxers.com.
