Boxers Can’t Finish In Loss To Red Hawks

FOREST GROVE – The Pacific women's basketball team had many chances to claim a victory, but couldn't finish out the second half, suffering a 67-64 loss to Simpsion University (Calif.) in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Stoller Center.
 
Kati Sheldon (Sr., Paso Robles, Calif.) and Alex Pfefferle (Sr., Twin Falls, Idaho) led the Boxers with 14 points apiece. Sheldon shot 6 of 11 from the field and was 2 of 4 from the free throw line. Sheldon brought down a team-high of nine rebounds. Pfefferle was 4 of 11 from the field and 2 of 7 beyond the arc. Pfefferle picked up five rebounds and a team-high six assists.
 
The Boxers played an even first half with Simpson. The Boxers took a seven-point lead with 13 minutes left to play after a made jumper from Kaila Johnson (Jr., McKinleyville, Calif.), leading 12-5. The Red Hawks climbed their way back into the game, bring the Boxer lead within one after a three-pointer from Karley Menez. Pfefferle put the Boxers back up 20-17 with a made jumper. Trading free throws, the Boxers trailed heading into the second half 26-27.
 
Simpson (Calif.) (6-5) came out strong in the second half taking a four-point lead. The Boxers tied the game for the sixth time with a jumper from Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.), tying the game at 30-30. The Boxers kept the lead for the next 12 minutes before the Red Hawks tied the game at 52-52. The Boxers took the lead by one with 2:47 left to play after a layup from Annette Highley (Jr., Juneau, Alaska). The Boxers did not see the lead after that, but tried to regain possession by forcing the Red Hawks to the free throw line.
 
The Boxers shot 37 percent from the field, 52 percent in the second half. They shot 33 percent from beyond the arc and 75 percent form the free throw line. The Red Hawks shot 35 percent from the field, 26 percent from beyond the arc and 68 percent from the charity stripe.
 
The Boxers slip to 1-2 on the season, while the Red Hawks improve to 6-5. The Boxers next matchup will be Tuesday, Dec. 3, after the Thanksgiving holiday, when they play host Walla Walla University at 5 p.m. Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at goboxers.com.
