Boxers Opportunities Fall To Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific men's soccer team could not find the back of the net as Puget Sound claimed the Northwest Conference title, shutting out the Boxers 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Peyton Field.
 
The Boxers shot nine times throughout the course of the match. Nick Kaminsky (Fr., Breves, Brazil) took the Boxers' first shot of the match in the sixth minute but hit the crossbar. The Loggers took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when Ryan Rash crossed to an open Vincent McCluskey, who finished the back of the net past Boxer keeper Zach Cohen (Sr., Grafton, Calif.).
 
Ian Farley (Jr., Spokane, Wash.) tried with a header in the eighth minute but the ball was wide. Jorge Mandujano (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) had the same idea, heading the ball towards the goal, but was high and over the goal. Nick Pinto (Fr., Wilsonville, Ore.) attempted a shot, but the ball was wide of the goal. Jake Passas (Fr., Minden, Nev.) took the Boxers' final opportunity of the first half, in the 31st minute, but was saved by Logger keeper Nathan King.
 
Garrick Knowles (Jr., Roseburg, Ore.) created an opportunity, but the ball was blocked. Farley shot again, but was wide of the goal in the 62nd minute. The Loggers extended the lead to 2-0 when Connor Lafarriere received the ball from Sam Zisette and took the ball to the back of the net. Just nine minutes later, McClusky scored again off a cross from Lafarriere to cap the scoring for the match.
 
The Boxers kept trying to find the back of the net in final 15 minutes. Pinto took the last shot of the match, but was high over the goal. The Boxers earned a corner kick in the 83rd minute, but could not capitalize on the opportunity.
 
Cohen (1-5-1) took the loss between the pipes, tallying seven saves. King claimed the victory for the Loggers, collecting one save. Farley and Pinto led the Boxers with two shots each. McCluskey led the Loggers with three shots.
 
The Boxers drop to 6-12-1 overall and 1-11-1 in the Northwest Conference. Next weekend, the Boxers will play their final match of the season, traveling to George Fox to take on the Bruins on Saturday. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m.
