Boxers Can't Find Back Of Net In Loss To Lutes

TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific men's soccer team could not find the back of the net on their six shots in the entire match, suffering a 3-0 loss to Pacific Lutheran in Northwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon at East Field.
 
Shooting three times in each period, the Boxers had a hard time finding the back of the net. Nick Pinto (Fr., Wilsonville, Ore.) took the Boxer's first shot of the match, shooting in the 11th minute, but was saved by Lutes' goalkeeper Joe Rayburn. Ian Farley (Jr., Spokane, Wash.) tried in the 14th minute, but was wide of the goal. Ian's brother Josh Farley (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) took another attempt, but was also wide in the 23rd minute.
 
The Boxers could not finish on three opportunities in the second half. Jake Passas (Fr., Minden, Nev.) shot twice within the first three minutes of the second half. The first shot was blocked and returned to his feet for his second shot, but was wide of the goal. Garrick Knowles (Jr., Roseburg, Ore.) took the final shot of the match for the Boxers in the 56th minute, but the ball was saved by Rayburn again.
 
The Lutes (11-4-3, 6-4-2 NWC) scored their first goal of the match in the 33rd minute when Joe Olenginski crossed to Derek Johnson, who finished to the back of the net, past Boxer keeper Michael Summers (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.). Rigoberto Loreto scored the second goal for the Lutes in the 49th minute off a cross from Giancarlo Santoro. Their third and final goal of the match came in the 88th minute when Jordan Downing shot from six yards out.
 
Summers took the loss between the pipes, tallying seven saves. Rayburn claimed the win, collecting two saves. Passas led the Boxers with two shots.
 
The Boxers (6-11-1, 1-10-1) will head to Puget Sound to take on the Loggers. The match will start at 1:30 p.m.
