Talboy Leads Boxers To Blowout Over Deacons

FOREST GROVE – After coming off the bench,
Abby Talboy (So., Boise, Idaho) finished with a team-high 13 points to lead the Boxers to a 78-49 blowout over the New Hope Christian Deacons in non-conference action on Saturday night at the Stoller Center.

Talboy shot 40 percent from the field (4 of 10) and 75 percent (3 of 4) from beyond the arc. She was also perfect from the charity stripe in two attempts to go along with four steals.
Alex Pfefferle (Sr., Twin Falls, Idaho) was right behind Talboy with 11 points, shooting 30 percent from the field (3 of 10) and was also perfect from the charity stripe in four attempts. She led the team with five assists.
Nani Ostrom (Jr., Juneau, Alaska),
Olivia Mayorga-Overtone (Jr., Oakland, Calif.) and
Sarah Curl (Fr., Portland, Ore.) each added nine points. Curl led the team with eight rebounds.

The Boxers took a 5-0 run after a Ostrom trey in the first 30 seconds before the Deacons started to close in. Taya Harbick cut the Boxer lead to 7-6 with two made free throws and Jess Logan made a three-pointer to put the Deacons up by two, leading 9-7. Ostrom hit another three, but Logan and Harbick again put the Deacons ahead. Dorain Perkey hit a jumper to put the Deacons with their largest lead of the night, leadng 18-10. The Deacons never saw the lead with five minutes left to play in the first half when Talboy and Pfefferle hit back-to-back three's to put the Boxers ahead 26-25. The Boxers ended the first half, leading by 10, 37-27.

Kaila Johnson (Jr., McKinleyville, Calif.) opened the second half with a trey for the Boxers, increasing the lead to 13. The Boxers were up by 22 points with less than 10 minutes to play. At the 9:43 minute mark, Pfefferle hit a jumper and Mayorga-Overtone was fouled down low and went to the free throw line and made both attempts.
Jonica Durbin (Jr., Seaback, Wash.) stepped to the floor and knocked down a free throw shot to extend the Boxer lead to 64-42. The Boxers had their largest lead of the evening with a 29-point lead after a Mayorga-Overtone trey.

The Boxers shot 45 percent from the field (29 of 65) and 42 percent from three-point range (11 of 26). The Boxers were 9 of 10 from the charity stripe and collected 10 steals and 22 points in the paint.

Next week, the Boxers are off to Hawaii for a two-game road trip. The Boxers will play Chapman University on Wednesday with tip off starting at 11:30 a.m. (HST). On Thursday, the Boxers will go head-to-head with Campbellsville (KY.) at 11:30 a.m. (HST).
