Cook’s Sharp Shooting Isn’t Enough For Boxers In Loss To Campbellsville
Box Score
HONOLULU, Hawaii – Junior guard
Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) really put on a performance in the Pacific women's basketball team's second and final game of the Hoop N Surf Classic, but wasn't enough as the Boxers had trouble finding more offense in 79-47 loss in their first meeting against Campbellsville (Ky.) on Thursday morning at St. Francis School.
In 25 minutes of play, Cook went off for a team-high 24 points, shooting 71 percent (10-14) from the field and 67 percent (4 of 6) from the charity stripe. She also was second on the team with six rebounds, three offense and three defensive boards.
Jonica Durbin (Jr., Seaback, Wash.) was second on the team with six points. She brought down a team-high eight rebounds.
The Boxers kept with the Tigers for most of the first half. Cook led off the game with an easy layup and was fouled. She headed to the line and finished the three-point play at the charity stripe. The Boxers saw the lead one more time in the next two minutes after
Kati Sheldon (Sr., Paso Robles, Calif.) made a layup to take a 5-4 lead. That was the last time the Boxers saw the lead. The squad tied the game at the 13:46 minute mark when Cook made her second free throw of the night. The Tigers would take the rest of the game in their hands, producing much offense.
The rest of the game the Boxers did not come within single digits of the Tigers. The Tigers shot 49 percent (27 of 55) from the field, 50 percent (8 of 16) from three-point range and 77 percent (17-22) from the free throw line. The Boxers were 33 percent (19 of 57) from the field, 17 percent (2 of 12) from beyond the arc and 64 percent (7 of 11) from the charity stripe. The Boxers turned the ball over 18 times and only tallied three steals. The Boxers scored only three points off the Tigers 10 turnovers.
The Boxers drop to 3-4 on the season and will return home tomorrow. The team will take a break away from competition for the holidays. They will come back on Dec. 30 for their final non-conference game of the season, playing host to Blackburn College (Ill.). Tip off will be at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at goboxers.com.
