Boxers Get Groove Back With Win Over Beavers

Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) recorded her second double-double on the season, pacing the Pacific women's basketball team to a 89-63 victory over Blackburn College on Monday afternoon in their final non-conference game at the Stoller Center.

After coming off a 24-point performance in her last game, Cook continued to power through to the boards and points. She was one of three Boxers to score 14 points and she crashed the boards, grabbing 12. She was 4 of 8 from the field and 6 of 8 from the free throw line. She also tallied one steal and two assists.
Olivia Mayorga-Overtone (Jr., Oakland, Calif.) and
Abby Jones (Jr., Haines, Alaska) were both one rebound away from a double-double, each scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Mayorga-Overtone collected four steals and two assists while shooting perfect, in five attempts, from the free throw line.

The first half proved to be a close match up as the Boxers went into the locker room with a 49-32 lead. The Beavers were on the board first, but
Kati Sheldon (Sr., Paso Robles, Calif.) responded with a layup. After a Mayorga-Overtone foul, the Beavers sunk two free throws, but Mayorga-Overtone redeemed herself with a made jumper. The Beavers never saw the lead again for the remained of the game as
Sarah Curl (Fr., Portland, Ore.) sunk a 15-foot jumper.

The Boxers took a 10-point lead at the 8:43 mark after a made three-pointer and sunken jumper from
Alex Pfefferle (Sr., Twin Falls, Idaho). The Beavers began to creep back but the Boxers maintained there 10-point lead until the one-minute mark when the squad made five baskets to lead by 17 at half.

The Boxers owned the second half as they took their biggest lead of the night of 32 after a good layup from Jones. The Beavers only saw offensive production from one player in the second half. Ciara Goodman, who was in foul trouble early, went off for 22 points on the game, scoring 10 in the final 10 minutes.

Overall, the Boxers outrebounded the Beavers 71 to 49. The Boxers shot 36 percent from the field, 21 percent from beyond the arc and 70 percent from the charity stripe. The Beavers shot 26.5 percent from the field, 17 percent from beyond the arc and 66 percent from the charity stripe. The Boxers tallied 17 assists and 16 steals to the Beavers eight assists and nine steals.
