Boxers Break Away With Victory Over Lutes On Senior Night

FOREST GROVE  – The Pacific women's basketball team took advantage of senior night with four Boxers scoring in double digits to secure a 87-43 victory over Pacific Lutheran in Northwest Conference play on Saturday evening at the Stoller Center.  
 
Alex Pfefferle (Jr., Twin Falls, Idaho) and Kaila Johnson (So., McKinleyville, Calif.) led the Boxers with 14 points a piece. Pfefferle was 5 of 13 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free throw line. Johnson was 5 of 8 from the field and 2 of 4 from three-point range. She was also perfect at the free throw line in two attempts. Heather Hitch (Sr., Enumclaw, Wash.) made the most of her senior night, scoring 13 points and collecting even rebounds in 25 minutes of play. Erica Colter (Sr., Kennwich, Wash) also sparked on senior night, tallying 11 points to go along with four assists and one steal. She was 3 of 7 from three-point range.
 
The Boxers started the game off behind 2-0 after a foul by Jensen, but Colter sunk a three-pointer to put the Boxers ahead for good. The Boxers went on a 10-0 run, leading 12-2 with 16 minutes left to play in the first half. Jensen connected on a jumper while Hitch made a jumper, a layup and a free throw.
 
With 12:47 left to play in the first half, the Boxers went up by 15 after a made layup from Pfefferle. Jensen connected for another jumper to take a 25-8 lead. Austin Schorno scored for the Pacific Lutheran (6-15, 3-11 NWC) but a Lute foul put Hitch at the free throw, making both of them to take a 27-10 lead. The Boxers went up by as much as 25 in the first half. With 36 seconds left until halftime, Samantha Potter cut the Boxer lead to 22 with a made layup.
 
Jensen opened the second half for the Boxers with a layup putting the Boxers up 45-21. Colter put the Boxers up 49-23 with another layup. The Boxers took away with the rest of the second half leading by as much as 37 with 12:25.
 
With 5:46 left to play, the Boxers went up by their largest lead of the evening, leading the lutes 84-39. Samantha Potter sunk a jumper, but was too late as the Boxers took the game 87-43.
 
The Boxers shot 46 percent from the field, connecting on 32 of 69. The Boxers were one short of being perfect from the free throw line, making 16 of 17. They forced 23 turnovers and outrebounded the Lutes 42-37.
 
There were three seniors honored this evening. Jensen has played all four years under head coach Sharon Rissmiller. Hitch and Colter came in as tranfers and played two years under Rissmiller.
 
The Boxers (14-8, 7-7 NWC) will play their final home game on Tuesday Feb. 12 against Lewis & Clark, before traveling to their final conference game on Friday, Feb. 15 against Puget Sound. Both tip offs are at 6 p.m.
