Wins By Iwai, Ulrich Lead Indoor Track & Field Finale

PORTLAND – Kiersten Iwai's (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) victory in the women's 3,000 meters and Will Ulrich's (Fr., Lake Elsinore, Calif.) win in the men's shot put led a number of top-three performances in Pacific's final indoor track and field meet of the season, the Pilot Indoor, Sunday at the Chiles Center.
 
Iwai won the lone distance event of the day with a time of 11:04.95.  Jilinda Franklin (Sr., Fort Jones, Calif.) finished third in the race with a time of 11:15.70.  The performances led a total of 16 top-three finishes for the Boxers in a meet which featured Warner Pacific, Portland State and host University of Portland.
 
Ulrich won the only event on the men's side of the ledger in his first collegiate meet, winning the shot put with a mark of 42 feet, 1.25 inches and led three Pacific athletes to finish in the top-four.  Chris Johnson (Jr., Everett, Wash.) placed second with a mark of 41 feet, 7 inches, while Aaron Koford (Jr., Wilsonville, Ore.) was fourth with a effort of 36 feet, 1.25 inches.
 
Kelson Kawai (Jr., North Kohala, Hawaii) ended the indoor season with a collegiate best in the men's high jump, placing third with a mark of 6 feet, 4.75 inches.
 
Sean Valente (Jr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) placed second in the men's 300 meters in 37.49 seconds, with Koford finishing third in 38.84 seconds.  Daniel Wagner (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) placed second in the 600 meters in 1:29.87, Spencer Wilson (So., La Pine, Ore.) was second in the 400 meters in a time of 54.28 seconds and Matthew Dodier (So., Portland, Ore.) was third in the 30-meter dash in a time of 4.19 seconds.
 
Kelli Aken-Pagdilao (Jr., Makakilo, Hawaii) led three second places finishes for the Pacific women, placing second in the 200 meters in a time of 27.4 seconds.  Emily Tuffey (So., Valencia, Calif.) was second in the 300 meters and Mariah Ariola (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) was third in a time of 47.21 seconds. Sidney Davis (Fr., Redmond, Ore.) was second in the 400 meters in 1:10.54 while Kylie Yamada placed third in the shot put with a mark of 33 feet, 1.25 inches.
 
The Pacific men placed second in the meet with 22.5 points, well behind the Pilots' winning total of 40 points.  The Pacific women were third with 21 points.  The Pilots also won on the women's side with 39 points.
 
The meet concluded the first official indoor track and field season for Pacific University.  The Boxers will now turn their attention to the outdoor venue, with season-opening Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker scheduled for Sat., Mar. 2, in McMinnville.
