Waldron Leads Boxers In Loss To Whitworth

FOREST GROVE –
Synclaire Waldron (So., Modesto, Calif.) led the Boxers with two wins, in both doubles and singles, but wasn't enough as the Boxer suffered another 7-2 loss to Whitworth in Northwest Conference women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Holce Tennis Courts.
Waldron teamed up with
Rachel Mizuno (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) at the No. 1 doubles flight to win the Boxers first match victory of the day. The pair beat Whitworth's Saryn Mooney and Taylor Pena 8-5.
Lillian Do (So., Beaverton, Ore.) and
Francesca Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) suffer a 9-7 loss at the No. 2 spot.
Amber Craviotto (So., Eugene, Ore.) and
Kelsey Lack (So., Grants Pass, Ore.) lost 8-1.
Picking up the Boxers only singles win of the day and her second win, Waldron defeated Mooney by retirement at the No. 1 singles flight. Waldron lost the first set 6-3, but came back to take the next two sets 7-5 and 3-2 before Mooney retired.
Do came close to a single victory in the No. 4 flight. She lost the first set 6-1, but came back in the second to win 6-4. In the decision set, she lost 6-3.
Becky Sheller (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) came close to beating Whitworth's Annika Westrein the No. 6 singles position. She lost the first set after a tight 8-6 tiebreaker and suffered a 6-3 loss in the second set.
The Boxers are now 0-3 and 0-3 in the Northwest Conference. Tomorrow, the Boxers travel to Lewis & Clark for more NWC women's tennis action. The match begins at 12:30 p.m.
