Boxers Get Back On Winning Track By Blanking Wildcats

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Pacific juggled the lineup to get back on the winning track Friday, snapping a two-match losing streak by rolling past Linfield, 9-0, in men's tennis action at the Linfield Tennis Center.
The Boxers opened the day in dominant fashion in the doubles, allowing the Wildcats a total of six games. Playing in the No. 3 position for the first time this season,
Alen Suklje (So., Portland, Ore.) and
David Yanagita (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.) cruised to an 8-1 win over Alex Mangan and Tim Hawkins to open the match.
Brian Kyaw (Fr., South San Francisco, Calif.) and
Lorne Bulling (Fr., Corvallis, Ore.) paired together for the first time and gelled well, dispatching Joel Trousdale and Lukas Kleinman 8-2 in the No. 2 match. The Boxers' No. 1 duo of
Troy Zuroske (Jr., Richland, Wash.) and
Giancarlo Battaglia (So., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) provided for the sweep, improving to 4-0 on the season with an 8-3 victory over Zachery Lyons and Micah Roos.
Battaglia continued his dominant play to open scoring in the singles, improving to 4-0 on the year with his 6-0, 6-3 win over Roos in the No. 2 flight. Kyaw secured the team win in the No. 6 flight, coming through with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mangan in his first singles match of the season.
Yanagita followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ben Brewer in the No. 4 match while
Brandon Schlack (So., Long Beach, Calif.) earned his first singles win of the year with a 7-5, 6-1 defeat of Trousdale. Zuroske improved to 3-1 on the season with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lyons in the No. 1 flight. Wong improved to 2-1 on the season and completed the sweep in the No. 5 match, edging out Kleinman in a closely played match, 6-4, 7-5 (12-10).
“This was a solid performance for the men today, a true team effort,” said Pacific Director of Tennis
Brian Jackson. “We put the pressure on Linfield right away in doubles using a new lineup. We showed some great energy.”
Pacific now looks ahead to their first home match of the 2013 season and their toughest test to date as a much-improved George Fox squad comes to the Hole Tennis Courts on Saturday.
