Boxers Suffer Doubleheader Loss To Wildcats

FOREST GROVE – The Pacific softball team couldn't find a rally in a doubleheader loss to No. 9 Linfield. Linfield took game one 1-0 and game two 10-1 in Northwest Conference action on Sunday after noon at Sherman Larkins Stadium.
The Boxers outhit the Wildcats 3-2 in the first game, but couldn't come up with the big hit as they drop to 11-13 on the season and 8-7 in the Northwest Conference. Linfield improved to 12-4 overall and 9-2 in the conference.
GAME 1 – Linfield 1, Pacific 0
Boxer starter
Marissa Reichard (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) threw six shutout innings, only allowing one run in the second inning. Wildcat Ashley Garcia started the rally with a single through the right side. Katy Brosig late reached on a fielder's choice and scored Kristen Vroom, a pinch runner for Garcia.
The rest of the way was a pitcher's dual between Reichard and Karina Paavola for Linfield. The Boxers tallied three hits and left six runners on base.
Becca Moen (Jr., Gresham, Ore.) started the bottomg of the first inning off with a single to the shortstop.
Kylee Oshiro (So., Aiea, Hawaii) singled down the right field line in the fourth inning and
Jenn Yano (So., Ontario, Ore.) singled through the left side to try and start a rally in their last attempt to get on the board.
Reichard (5-3) took the loss in the circle for the Boxers. She allowed one run on just two hits in seven innings of work while striking out five and walking two. Paavola (6-1) claimed the victory, allowing three hits and collected six strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Oshiro led the Boxers at the plate, going 1 for 2. Moen and Yano each went 1 for 3.
GAME 2 – Linfield 10, Pacific 1
The Boxers picked up a run against the nationally ranked Wildcats.
Jessie Moore (Fr., Portland, Ore.) led off the second inning with a double to right center.
Kaylene Sudbeck (So., Caldwell, Idaho) went into pinch run for Moore. Two batters later
Kylee Yamamoto (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) singled down the left field line to score Sudbeck.
The Wildcats were on the board first, scoring two runs in the first inning. They added four more in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Wildcats scored one in the fourth and capped their scoring in the sixth inning with three runs to take the victory due to the mercy rule.
Chloe Hanson (So., Trail, Ore.) (1-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs on five hits in 1.2 innings.
Shannon Miller (Jr., Vancouver, Wash.) came in to the game to relieve Hanson second inning. Miller allowed one run on one hit before being relieved by Yano in the fifth inning. Yano allowed three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work.
The Boxers collected four hits in the game. Yamamoto went 1 for 2 with and RBI while Moen went 1 for 2.
Emmie Moser (Fr., Mt. Vernon, Wash.) and Moore each went 1 for 1.
The Boxers will take a break from Northwest Conference action and travel down to Northwest Christian for a doubleheader on Wednesday, Mar. 20. First pitch will be at 2 p.m.
