Oshiro Leads Boxers in Twinbill Loss To Wildcats

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. –
Kylee Oshiro (So., Aiea, Hawaii) led the Boxers with two hits on the day in 3-0 and 9-1 doubleheader loss to Linfield on Saturday afternoon at Del Smith Stadium in Northwest Conference softball action.
Oshiro picked up her two hits in game one. She singled to the left side in the second inning and singled again to the left side in the fourth. The Boxers only pounded out six hits on the day, four coming in the second game.
The Boxers drop to 3-3 in Northwest Conference play and 6-8 overall. Linfield improves to 4-2 and 4-2 in the Northwest Conferece.
GAME 1
Linfield used one inning to get past the Boxers. Boxer starter
Chloe Hanson (So., Trail, Ore.) pitched two shutout innings before McKenna Spieth and Erin Carson scored on Megan Wallo's doubled to center. The Wildcats capped the scoring after Karleigh Prestianni sacrifice flied to right field to score Grace Middelstadt.
The Boxers had bases loaded in the second inning, but could not get a runner across home plate.
Jessie Moore (Fr., Portland, ore.) led off the inning with a walk.
Megan Sigler (Fr., Cottonwood, Idaho) came in to pinch run for Moore. Sigler advanced to second on Oshiro's first hit to the left side. Sigler and Oshiro would advance a base on a pass ball by Linfield's catcher.
Megan Winans (Fr., Hood River, Ore.) drew a walk to load the bases, but the next two Boxers would not reach base.
Hanson (0-2) allowed three runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work before
Shannon Miller (Jr., Vancouver, Wash.) made a presence in the circle. Hanson struck out one and walked two while Miller struck out two and walked three. Linfield's starter Korina Paavola through seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 10 and walking three.
GAME 2
The Boxers were on the board early in the first inning.
Becca Moen (Jr., Gresham, Ore.) led off the game with a double to left field. She advanced to third on a bunt by
Rachel Roberts (Fr., Oregon City, Ore.) and scored off
Marissa Reichard's (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) single to center field.
Linfield would control the rest of the game, using the second and third inning to score nine runs. Boxer starter
Jenn Yano (So., Ontario, Ore.) walked the first batter. Ashley Garcia came up to send the ball over the left field fence to give the Wildcats the lead for good.
The Wildcats scored seven runs in the third inning. Wallo started the rally with a double through the left side. Prestianni reached on an error. With one out, Lisa Yamamoto singled to score Prestianni and Wallo.
With two outs, the Boxers had a hard time finding that third out as the Wildcats pounded out five more hits in the inning.
Sara Aasness (Jr., Kirkland, Wash.) came in to relieve Yano in the circle. The Wildcats took advantage of the new pitcher as Katie Brosig scored on a single by Carson. The Wildcats scored four more runs to take the game in five innings due to the mercy rule.
Moen, Reichard,
Quirena Natividad (Fr., Waipahu, Hawaii) and
Kylee Yamamoto (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) all picked up hits for the Boxers. Yano (2-4) allowed seven runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work while Aasness allowed two runs on five hits. Shelby VandeBergh (2-2) picked up the victory in the circle for the Wildcats, striking out three and giving up four hits.
The Boxers return home on Sunday to play host to Willamette. The doubleheader will begin at noon.
