Boxers Come Up Short To George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Pacific women's tennis team won two matches, but wasn't enough in 8-2 loss to George Fox in Northwest Conference action on Saturday at George Fox campus courts.
 
Lillian Do (So., Beaverton, Ore.) and Becky Sheller (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) picked up the two Boxer wins of the day. Do defeated George Fox's Shaina Inn in a close match in the No. 3 singles flight. Do lost the first set 6-2, but came back in the second to win 6-4 and won the third set by a tiebreaker.
 
Sheller picked up her fourth victory of the season, defeating Chantelle Hadeed in the No. 4 spot, Sheller's first time competing in the No. 4 spot. She won the first set 6-1 and closeout the victory with a 6-4 second set.
 
The Boxers played three close doubles matches. Synclaire Waldron (Fr., Modesto, Calif.) and Rachel Mizuno (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) teamed up in the No.1 position. The two battled, but were defeated 9-7. Do and Sheller lost 8-4 in the No. 2 flight and Kelsey Lack (So., Grants Pass, Ore.) and Amber Craviotto (So., Eugene, Ore.) were defeated 9-7.
 
Mizuno also fought in the No. 2 singles flight, take the second set 6-1. She lost the first 6-3 and then was defeated in the deciding set 6-2.
 
The Boxers drop to 0-6 in the Northwest Conference and 0-6 overall. Their next competition will be next Friday as they travel down to Willamette to take on the Bearcats. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
