Boxers Mix Up Lineup, Cruise Over Treasure Valley
Box Score
FOREST GROVE – Pacific took the chance to rest some players and give others some competition Saturday as the Boxers rolled to a 9-0 exhibition men's tennis victory over Treasure Valley CC at the Holce Tennis Courts.
“It was a good day for us to win all of our matches and to do so convincingly,” said Pacific Director of Tennis
Brian Jackson. “We were excited to get some players out there that needed match play and rest those who needed it. It really was a true team effort.”
Unlike their match against Lewis & Clark the day before, the Boxers left nothing to chance in the doubles matches.
Alen Suklje (So., Portland, Ore.) and
Kolin Wong (Sr., Captain Cook, Hawaii), moving up from No. 3 to No. 1, cruised in an 8-1 victory over Jonahs Joudney and Woody Anguaino.
Brian Kyaw (Fr., South San Francisco, Calif.) teamed up for an 8-1 win over Martin Loya and Seven Kobotov.
Ty Tanaka (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) and
Ben Ryweck (Fr., Port Townsend, Wash.), teaming up for the first time, easily knocked off Tanner Nielsen and Cristian Sanchez, 8-1, at No. 3.
In singles,
Brandon Schlack (So., Long Beach, Calif.) did not allow a game to Joudney in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1. Kyaw scored a 7-5, 6-1 win over Anguaino at No. 2 and Yanagita was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Loya at No. 3. Tanaka beat Kobotov at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1. Ryweck was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Nielsen at No. 5 and
Trevor Yamagata (Fr., Kona, Hawaii) beat Sanchez 6-2, 6-4.
Pacific now head south for three matches in Southern California. The Boxers will play a neutral site match against Middlebury on Sunday before playing at Caltech on Monday and Occidental on Wednesday.
