Boxers Take Advantage Of Opportunities To Take Stags Series

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Pacific took advantage of a handful of offensive opportunities to take the series victory from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and give
Matt Delegato (Sr., Hillsboro, Ore.) his third straight win as the Boxers won 5-3 in baseball action at Arce Field.
The Boxers (6-13) took scored single runs in the first, fifth and ninth innings and built the cushion they needed with a two-run sixth inning. Pacific did it with small ball once again, with only two of their eight hits being the extra-base variety.
Trux French (Sr., Kennewick, Wash.) led Pacific by going 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Walker Olis (Fr., Burlington, Wash.) opened the Pacific scoring in the first with a two-out single. He proceeded to steal second and scored on
Logan Moen's (Sr., Brier, Wash.) single. The Stags (4-20) tied it in the third when William Knowles led off with a single and scored on a base hit by Jack Witte.
Donnie Bradley (So., Beaverton, Ore.) scored the Boxers' lone run in the fifth when he walked, stole second and scored on a triple by
Dan Jaffe (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.). Pacific then turned one hit into two run in the sixth. Moen and French both walked with one out and
Nick Tasaka (Sr., Hawaii Kai, Hawaii) scored Moen on his single to right field. French later scored on a squeeze bunt.
The Stags tallied one run in the home half of the sixth when Dustin Green singled to score Brent Watanabe. They added one in the seventh when Knowles singled and scored on Scott Witte's double down the left field line. Bradley scored the Boxers' run in the ninth when he led off with a bunt single and scored on
Nathan Suyematsu's (Fr., Tualatin, Ore.) double.
Delegato earned his third win in as many appearances to improve to 3-1 on the season. He allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits with a walk and four strikeouts in seven innings.
Craig Nesselhuf (Fr., Littleton, Colo.) earned the Boxers' first save of the season, allowing one hit and striking out three over the final two innings. John Rizzo took the loss for Claremont, allowing four runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. He dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Pacific will wrap up their Southern California road trip on Monday as they play Whittier.
