Box Score

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Kaitlyn Harper (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) and Kelly Stevens (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) each scored three goals, but the scoring was not enough to offset a solid first half performance by Colorado College goalkeeper Abby Fink as the Tigers scored an 11-8 victory over the Boxers Monday in women's lacrosse action at Washburn Field.

Fink made nine saves on 11 Pacific shots in the first 30 minutes, allowing the Tigers to go into halftime with a 7-2 lead.  Harper proceeded to score a hat trick in the second half as the Boxers outscored the Tigers 6-4, but it was not enough to completely make up the first half deficit.

Amy Mayhugh (So., Tigard, Ore.) and Melanie Niehus (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) each scored on goal apiece, with Mayhugh adding the Boxers' only assist of the game.  Stevens added seven draw controls and Harper led Pacific with five draw controls.

Ellie Cole lead Colorado College (1-6) with four goals.  Frances Staadt and Elise Burchard scored two goals apiece while Madeline Pitkin and Leigh Nicholl scored one each.  Pacific outshot the Tigers 23-21 while Colorado College had a 12-9 advantage in draw controls.  Both teams had 28 ground balls.

Stevens gave Pacific the game's first goal, breaking open a defensive battle with a free position goal with 21:24 to go in the first half.  Burchard gave the Tigers their first goal with 18:26 to go, which opened up a string of sis unanswered goals.  Staadt scored two of the goals while Cole ended the run with her free position goal with 6:40 left for a 6-1 Tigers' lead.  Stevens tallied the Boxers' second goal with 1:35 left as Colorado College went into halftime with a 7-2 lead.

Stevens and Harper scored back-to-back unassisted goals to open the second half, with Harper scoring with 23:07 left to bring Pacific within 7-4.  The Tigers, however, scored just enough goals to keep the Boxers from overtaking the lead.  After the Tigers went ahead 9-5, Mayhugh and Harper combined for back-to-back goals at the 16:38 and 11:40 marks to come back within 9-7.  Colorado College put the game away with two Cole goals in the final 10 minutes.

Fink had nine of her 13 saves in the first half to get the win in goal.  Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.) took the loss for the Boxers, making seven saves.

Pacific will conclude their three-game Colorado road trip on Wednesday as they take on MIT.  Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (MDT).
