Boxers Hit To Doubleheader Sweep Of Beacons

EUGENE, Ore. – After postponing the doubleheader from last Wednesday, the Pacific softball team pounded out 17 hits to a doubleheader sweep of Northwest Christian in non-conference action on Tuesday at James Park. The Boxers shutout the Beacons 5-0 in game one and took the nightcap 9-4.
 
Jessie Moore (Fr., Portland, Ore.) led the Boxers at the plate, going 3 for 4 with and RBI and a run scored. Kylee Oshiro (So., Aiea, Hawaii) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ashley Mitchell (Fr., Redmond, Wash.) hit her second home run of the season in game one. She went 3 for 7 at the plate with 5 RBIs.
 
The Boxers improve to 13-13 overall and are 8-8 in the Northwest Conference.
 
Game 1 – Pacific 5, Northwest Christian 0
The Boxers were on the board early in the first inning. Rachel Roberts (Fr., Oregon City, Ore.) drew a walk with one out and later scored on an error by the catcher, the only run needed to claim the victory.
 
The Boxers scored two more runs in the second after Kaitlyn Shikada (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) singled up the middle. Shikada would score on Mitchell's triple to right center. Mitchell then scored on Becca Moen's (Jr., Gresham, Ore.) sacrifice fly to center field.
 
In the fourth inning, the Boxers capped their scoring with Oshiro starting the inning off with a single to left field. With two outs, Mitchell blasted a two-run blast over the center field wall that scored Megan Sigler (Fr., Cottonwood, Idaho), who pinch ran for Oshiro.
 
Marissa Reichard (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) picked up her sixth victory of the season and a combined shutout with Chloe Hanson (So., Trail, Ore.). Reichard allowed just one hit while striking out one and walking just one in five innings of work. Hanson allowed now hits while striking out one and walking two in two innings of work.
 
Game 2 – Pacific 9, Northwest Christian 4
Once again the Boxers were on the board early, but taking a four-run lead in the first inning. Roberts drew a walk with one out and advanced to third on Reichard's single down the left field line. Moore drew a walk to load the bases. Roberts scored the first run of the game after Megan Winans (Fr., Hood River, Ore.) drew another walk. Oshiro was hit by a pitch to score Reichard. Kiera Melton (So., Pleasanton, Calif.) singled to left field to score Oshiro and Winans.
 
The Beacons came back in the bottom of the first inning to score one run, but the Boxers answered in the top of the third, taking a 5-1 lead. Moore singled to left field to start the inning. Sigler came in to pinch run for Moore and later scored on Oshiro's single to center field.
 
Capping their scoring in the fourth inning, the Boxers scored four runs to secure the victory. With one out, Roberts bunted for a base hit. She would score on Reichard single through the right side. Reichard scored on Moore's single to left field. Mitchell later doubled to center to score Emmie Moser (Fr., Mt. Vernon, Wash.) and Moore, taking a 9-1 lead heading into the fifth inning.
 
The game could have been called after the fifth due to the eight-run mercy rule, but the Beacons battled back and scored three runs in the fifth to continue the game.
 
Sara Aasness (Jr., Kirkland, Wash.) collected the victory in the circle for the Boxers. She allowed one run on five hits while striking out one and walking two in four innings of work. Hanson came in as a relief to finish the game with two strikeouts.
 
Moore led the Boxers at the plate, going 2 for 2 with an RBI. Reichard went 2 for 3 with and RBI and two runs scored.
 
The Boxers (13-13, 8-8 NWC) will return back to Northwest Conference play this weekend. They will play host to George Fox on Friday and Saturday at Sherman Larkins Stadium. Both doubleheaders start at noon.
