Boxers Hold Off Bruins In Twinbill Sweep

FOREST GROVE – Chloe Hanson (So., Trail, Ore.) came in as relief in both games to help the Pacific softball team hold off George Fox in a twinbill sweep on Friday afternoon at Sherman Larkins Stadium. The Boxers took game one 8-1 and held off the Bruins in the nightcap, claiming a 7-5 victory.
 
Rachel Roberts (Fr., Oregon City, Ore.) led the Boxers at the plate, going 6 for 8 and scoring five runs. Marissa Reichard (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) went 4 for 8 at the plate and collected her seventh victory of the season in the circle.
 
The Boxers improve to 15-13 overall and 10-8 in the Northwest Conference. George Fox drops to 13-17 overall and 10-8 in the Northwest Conference.
 
GAME 1 – Pacific 8, George Fox 1
The Boxers had no trouble getting on the board early. Becca Moen (Jr., Gresham, Ore.) drew a walk to start the rally. Roberts then moved her to second on a single through the right side. Roberts and Moen both scored on Reichard's triple to right center.
 
Another rally started in the fifth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Roberts opened the rally with an infield single. She then advanced to second on Reichard's single through the left side. Jessie Moore (Fr., Portland, Ore.) drew a walk to load the bases. Megan Winans (Fr., Hood River, Ore.) singled through the right side to score Roberts and Reichard. Ashley Mitchell (Fr., Redmond, Wash.) capped the scoring of the inning with a 3-run blast over the center field wall, her third home run of the season.
 
Reichard held the Bruins through 5.1 innings before the Bruins put up a run. Hanson came in as a relief to finish the game. Reichard collected the victory in the circle, allowing one run on four hits. Hanson allowed no hits and struck out one in 1.2 innings of work.
 
GAME 2 – Pacific 7, George Fox 5
The start of the second game proved to be the opposite of the first. The Bruins were on the board first in the first inning, but the Boxers came back in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. With one out, Roberts singled to left center. She stole second and advanced to third on Reichard's single to left field. Roberts would then score off of Moore's single through the left side. Mitchell singled in the infield to score Reichard and advanced Megan Sigler (Fr., Cottonwood, Idaho), a pinch runner for Moore, to third. Kylee Oshiro (So., Aiea, Hawaii) doubled to right center to score Sigler.
 
The Boxers would score four more in the bottom of the second inning to cap the scoring for the game. Moen singled up the middle to start the inning. Roberts singled to left to advance Moen to second. Reichard bunted for a base hit to load the bases. Moore then cleared the bases with a double to left center. The Boxers got one more run off Oshiro's double to right center to score Moore.
 
The Bruins came back in the top of the fourth inning and got to Boxer starter Sara Aasness (Jr., Kirkland, Wash.). Kayla Anders hit a 3-run home run over the left center wall. Shannon Miller (Jr., Vancouver, Wash.) came in to relieve  Aasness and forced a pop-up and a groundout to finish the inning. Hanson came in as a relief for Miller in the sixth and allowed one hit.
 
Aasness recorded the win in the circle, her fifth of the season. She allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out one. Rachel Fielder suffered the loss for the Bruins, allowing seven runs on 13 hits while striking out two and walking two. Roberts led the Boxers at the plate, going 3 for 4 and Oshiro and Moore each went 2 for 3. Moore had four RBIs and Oshiro had two.
