Do/Sheller Win, Boxers Can’t Hold Off Bearcats In Tight Match

Lillian Do (So., Beaverton, Ore.) and
Becky Sheller (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) led the Boxers with a doubles win and two singles wins in tight 5-4 loss to Willamette at the Willamette University Tennis Courts in Northwest Conference action on Friday afternoon.
Do and Sheller teamed up as the No. 2 doubles flight. The two battled to an 8-2 victory over Willamette's Stephanie Matsuura and Rachel Heringer. Do later beat Heringer in the No. 4 singles flight, collecting a 6-1 victory in both set.
Sheller continues to be a force late in the Boxers line up. She won in the No. 5 singles flight with a 6-2 and 6-1 match over Willamette's Mandy Carlson.
Francesca Battaglia (So., ) won her first match of the season. She beat Matsuura in the No. 3 singles position. The first set was determined by a tiebreaker. Battaglia took the tiebreaker 7-4 and won the second set 6-4 to take the match victory.
The Boxers are still looking for their first victory as they dropped to a 0-7 Northwest Conference record and 0-7 overall. Willamette improved to 1-7 and 1-6 in the Northwest Conference. The Boxers will return home to play host to Whitman on Saturday and College of Idaho on Sunday. Saturday's match starts at 4 p.m. and Sunday's match starts at 10 a.m.
