Aasness Throws No-Hitter, Boxers Take Two From Pios

PORTLAND, Ore. –
Sara Aasness (Jr., Kirkland, Wash.) threw a no-hitter in the second game to help the Pacific softball team take two games from Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon at the Huston Sports Complex. The Boxers took game one 7-4 and came back strong in the nightcap, winning 6-1.
Aasness improved her record to 5-4 in the circle. She allowed one run, earned, while striking out three and walking six in seven innings of work.
Kylee Oshiro (So., Aiea, Hawaii) led the Boxers at the plate, going 4 for 7 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Kylee Yamamoto (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) went 3 for 7 at the plate and blasted her first home run in a Boxer uniform.
The Boxers improved to 18-16 on the season and 13-11 in the Northwest Conference. The Pioneers drop to 15-21 on the season and 9-17 in the Northwest Conference.
Game 1 – Pacific 7, Lewis & Clark 4
The Pioneers were on the board first, scoring one run in the bottom of the second inning. The Boxers answered two innings later to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. With one out, Oshiro doubled down the right field line.
Megan Sigler (Fr., Cottonwood, Idaho) came in to pinch run for Oshiro and scored on the throw when
Ashley Mitchell (Fr., Redmond, Wash.) walked and stole second. Mitchell scored on
Kaitlyn Shikada's (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) single up the middle. Shikada later scored on
Becca Moen's (Jr., Gresham, Ore.) single to center field.
The Boxers scored two more in the fifth inning after
Marissa Reichard (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) led off the inning with a triple to right field. She scored on Oshiro's blast over the left field wall, her second home run of the season and the first of four on the day for the Boxers.
Scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Pios still couldn't come out on top as the Boxers scored two runs in the seventh to help secure the victory. Oshiro led off the inning with a walk and stole second on the next play. She scored on
Megan Winans' (Fr., Hood River, Ore.), who came in to pinch hit, bomb over the left center wall, Winans fifth home run on the season.
Reichard (9-4) claimed the victory in the circle, allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out eight and walking two in 5.2 innings of work.
Chloe Hanson (So., Trail, Ore.) came in for the final inning to collect one strikeout. Oshiro led the Boxers at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs.
Game 2 – Pacific 6, Lewis & Clark 1
The Boxers were on the board first in game two, scoring one run in the top of the second.
Jessie Moore (Fr., Portland, Ore.) led off the inning with a single to left field. Sigler came in to pinch run for Moore and later scored on a Pioneer error of Shikada's ball.
Oshiro started a four-run fourth inning rally with a single. She advanced to second on an error by the right fielder.
Maddie Collura (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) came into pinch run for Oshiro and scored on a squeeze bunt by Winans. Shikada bunted for a base hit and also moved Winans to second before Yamamoto blasted her first home run of the season over the left field wall.
The Pios scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth after Aasness hit a batter. Mullins stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Hollenbeck.
The Boxers capped the scoring with a solo blast from Mitchell in the top of the fifth inning. Mitchell led the Boxers at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Yamamoto went 1 for 3 with three RBIs. Winans went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Boxers will return home to complete their four-game series with Lewis & Clark tomorrow at Sherman Larkins Stadium, their final home games of the season. First pitch will be at noon.
