Boxers Shutout Pios In Nightcap To Force Split

FOREST GROVE – The Pacific softball team suffered a 3-2 loss in the first game, but came back in the night cap to shutout Lewis & Clark 8-0 in Northwest Conference softball action on Sunday afternoon at Sherman Larkins Stadium.
 
Sara Aasness (Jr., Kirkland, Wash.) improved her record to 6-4 on the mound, collecting the victory in the second game. She allowed no runs on just one hit while striking out three and walking three in five innings of work. Chloe Hanson (So., Trail, Ore.) suffered the loss in the first game, pitching 1.2 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit and striking out two.
 
The Boxers improved to 19-17 on the season and 14-17 in the Northwest Conference. Lewis & Clark dropped to 15-22 on the season and 9-18 in the Northwest Conference.
 
Game 1 – Lewis & Clark 3, Pacific 2
After two scoreless innings, the Pios were on the board first in the top of the third inning, but the Boxers responded in the fifth inning to tie the game up with two runs. With two outs, Becca Moen (Jr., Gresham, Ore.) drew a walk and stole second. Rachel Roberts (Fr., Oregon City, Ore.) reached on a fielding error by the Pios' shortstop. Moen and Roberts both scored on Marissa Reichard's (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) double to center field.
 
Hanson came in to relieve Reichard in the sixth inning, but allowed Lewis & Clark to scored in the top of the seventh. The Boxers tried to push a run across in their last chance, but could not come through. Moen singled to center field and Roberts singled to the infield to put runners on first and second with one out, but could not get a run across.
 
Reichard led the Boxers at the plate, going 2 for 4 with an RBI. On the mound, she allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking one in 5.1 innings of work. Moen went 1 for 3 and Roberts was 1 for 4 with an RBI.


Game 2 – Pacific 8, Lewis & Clark 0 (5 innings)
The Boxers pounded out nine hits in the nightcap to force a split with the Pioneers. The Boxers scored three early runs to get on the board early to take the lead. Moen led off the game with a triple to left center. She then scored on Roberts single to center field. Roberts stole second and would score on Jessie Moore's (Fr., Portland, Ore.) blast over the center field wall. The home run marks Moore's sixth home run of the season.
 
Two more runs were added in the third inning for the Boxers. Moen led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Roberts singled to right center to score Moen. Roberts later scored on Reichard's ground out to the shortstop.
 
The Boxers capped their scoring in the fourth inning to end the game due to the 8-run mercy rule. Megan Winans (Fr., Hood River, Ore.) led off the inning with a triple to left center. She scored on Kylee Yamamoto's (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) single to the infield. Kaitlyn Shikada (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) was hit by a pitch and scored on a error by the Pios' third baseman. Yamamoto scored on Reichard's single to left field.
 
Moen, Roberts and Moore each went 2 for 3 at the plate. Roberts, Moore and Reichard each had two RBIs. Aasness collected the victory in the circle, throwing five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
 
The Boxers are looking to get into the Northwest Conference tournament next weekend and will end regular season play on Tuesday as they travel to Puget Sound for a make-up doubleheader. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
