Box Score
TACOMA, Wash. –
Matt Delegato (Sr., Hillsboro, Ore.) put together another gem to win his seventh straight Sunday, pitching a complete game four-hitter as Pacific blanked Puget Sound 10-0 in Northwest Conference baseball action at Logger Field.
Delegato went the distance for the fourth time this season, allowing four hits, walking no one and striking out six. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and allowed just two runners past first base. In the process, Delegato lowered his earned run average to an impressive 1.75.
Pacific (13-21, 10-11 NWC) benefited as well from a strong offensive afternoon where the first five batters in the Boxers' order had at least two hits.
Charlie Gaff (Fr., Stockton, Calif.) went 3 for 6 with two RBIs.
Michael Arakaki (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii),
Walker Olis (Fr., Burlington, Wash.),
Logan Moen (Sr., Brier, Wash.) and
Trux French (Sr., Kennewick, Wash.) each went 2 for 5.
The Boxers opened scoring with a three-run third inning. Gaff opened with a one-out single, Arakaki followed with a hit through the right side of the infield and Olis hit a sharp single to second base to load the bases. Moen responded with a two-run double to left field and squeeze bunt by French scored Olis from third.
Moen opened the Boxers' four-run sixth with a leadoff single to left. After being sacrificed to second, Moen scored with a rolling single by
Austin Gallagher (So., Lake Oswego, Ore.).
Donnie Bradley (So., Beaverton, Ore.) continued the inning when he reached on an error and
Dan Jaffe (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) followed with a double down the left field line that scored Gallagher.
Ben Duerr (Fr., Lebanon, Ore.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Gaff scored Bradley with a single to right center field. Arakaki struck out swinging for the second out, but Olis followed with a sharp single to the pitch to score Jaffe.
French opened the seventh with a double and two batters later Bradley walked. Both runners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch and both scored when Duerr reached on an error. Duerr then scored from first on Gaff's long single to right center field.
Steve Wagar dropped to 2-3 in the loss for the Loggers, allowing five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Reliever Jarrod Beiser allowed five unearned runs on five hits and three walks in the final 3.2 innings. Four different hitters had the Loggers' four hits.
