WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Pacific battled not only perennial Northwest Conference power Whitman Saturday, but also battled the elements in a 9-0 loss to the Missionaries in the penultimate match of the 2013 regular season at the Whitman Tennis Courts.

“Whitman showed their strength today,” said Pacific Director of Tennis Brian Jackson.  “We battled tough in some hard, windy conditions and Whitman just seemed to handle it much better than we did.  They were certainly the better team today.”

The No. 1 doubles tandem of Troy Zuroske (Jr., Richland, Wash.) and Giancarlo Battaglia (So., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) gave the Missionaries' duo of Matt Tesmond and Sam Sadeghi a solid challenge, but fell in an 8-6 decision.  Steven Roston and Andy Riggs cruised by Alen Suklje (So., Beaverton, Ore.) and Kolin Wong (Sr., Captain Cook, Hawaii) in the No. 2 flight, 9-0.  James Rivers and Colton Malesovas completed the sweep with an 8-2 decision at No. 3 over Brian Kyaw (Fr., South San Francisco, Calif.) and Lorne Bulling (Fr., Corvallis, Ore.).

The Missionaries did not lose a set in singles to complete the sweep.  Malesovas was a 6-2, 6-2 winner of Battaglia at No. 1, Riggs scored the 6-3, 6-1 win over Zuroske at No. 2 and Sadeghi took the 6-1, 6-2 win over Suklje at No. 3.  Roston was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Brandon Schlack (So., Long Beach, Calif.) at No. 4, Will Huskey took the 6-3, 6-2 win over Bulling at No. 5 and Alex Noyes scored the 6-1, 6-2 decision over Kyaw.

Pacific will closed the regular season next Saturday as they play George Fox.  The match will be played at the Stafford Hills Tennis Club in Tualatin at 6 p.m.
