LACEY, Wash. – Pacific's Kelson Kawai (Jr., North Kohala, Hawaii) and Taylor Hickson (So., Red Bluff, Calif.) continued their quest to realize qualifying marks for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships on Sunday, competing in the Saint Martin's Last Chance Meet at Saint Martin's College.

Kawai defeated two other competitors to win the men's high jump, but did not improve his season best with a performance of 6 feet, 6.75 inches.  Kawai, who owns a season best and a school-record tying mark at 6 feet, 8 inches, currently ranks in a tie for No. 19 on the Division III best list, with the top-18 competitors earning a place in the national meet.  The No. 18 position, currently held by George Warren of Trinity (Texas), is at 6 feet, 8.25 inches.

Hickson, who threw for a lifetime best in the men's javelin at the Northwest Conference Championships two weeks ago, placed second with a mark of 167 feet, 6 inches.  The mark ranks as the third best effort for the Boxers this season.

The Saint Martin's Last Chance Meet was the first of a number of last chance qualifiers this week to allow athletes to qualify for their respective conference championships.  Kawai and distance runner Tyler Shipley (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) will travel to Naperville, Ill., to compete at the Gregory Invitational on Friday and Saturday.  Another handful of Pacific athletes will head to Newberg to compete in the GFU Final Qualifier on Friday.
