Division I Lead Way On First Day Of Pacific Twilight

Photo GalleryFOREST GROVE – It was a solid first day for the Division I teams Friday as Portland and Portland State claimed the majority of individual titles on the first day of the Pacific Twilight Track & Field Invitational, held at Pacific University's Lincoln Park Stadium.
Amber Rozcicha set a meet and stadium record for the Vikings in the women's 1,500 meters, winning in a time of 4:27.74. Ali Super added a win in the women's javelin throw with her mark of 139 feet, 2 inches. Valerie Mitchell made it three titles for the Vikings with her time of 41:46.62 in the women's 10,000 meters.
Tansey Lystad opened the afternoon with a win in the women's steeplechase for the Pilots, holding a comfortable 20-second lead on the field with her time of 11:19.00. David Perry captured top honors in the men's 1,500 meters, leading a one-two-three sweep for the Pilots with a time of 3:52.41.
Spokane CC represented the community colleges well with a trio of event winners. Jessica Mildes had nearly a lap on the field when she crossed the finish line in the women's 5,000 meters, winning in 17:13.74. Kevin Stanley added a victory in the men's hammer with his throw of 166 feet, 11 inches. Emily Flynn closed the day with her victory in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 149 feet, 6 inches.
Southern Oregon also claimed two first day titles. Trevor Lynn led a Raiders' top-two sweep in the men's steeplechase with his time of 9:35.52. Sam Hartinger added a victory in the men's triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, 2 inches.
Other event winners on the opening day included Jacob Berkner in the men's 5,000 meters (15:15.63), D'Nara Jones of Clackamas CC in the women's triple jump (35-11.5), Lee Johnson in the men's 10,000 meters (32:55.81), Ryan Weidman in the man's javelin (210-2) and WOMENS HAMMER.
Pacific, the meet host, was led by pair of fourth place finishers in the throws.Â
Travis George (Jr., Grants Pass, Ore.) placed fourth in the men's hammer, just missing his school record effort from last week in 159 feet, 7 inches.Â
Taylor Hickson (So., Red Bluff, Calif.) was fourth in the men's javelin with a mark of 179 feet, 9 inches.
Competition on day two of the Pacific Twilight will commence at 10 a.m., with the women's pole vault, men's discus, women's high jump, men's long jump and women's shot put. Running events begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 400-meter relay.
