Rewick Makes All-Tournament Team As Boxers Fall To Tigers
Box Score
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Pacific's game improved in their final match of the Colorado College Invitational Saturday night, but host Colorado College completed a sweep of their own tournament with a three-set sweep of the Boxers, 25-20, 25-27, 25-19, in volleyball action at Reid Arena.
Â
The Boxers (0-4) recovered well in the second of back-to-back matches, having lost a five-set thriller to UMass Boston 30 minutes prior to taking on the Tigers. Pacific held leads in the first and third sets, but watched the composed Tigers (4-0) come back late both times.
Â
Marie Rewick (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) was named to the All-Tournament Team after leading the Boxers for the third time with 16 kills. She finished the tournament with 54 kills and 3.38 kills per set.Â
Emily Farnham (So., University Place, Wash.) added 22 assists and
Becky Sheller (So., Gresham, Ore.) finished with 25 digs.
Â
Abbegail Holtze led Colorado College with 14 kills while Emily Phillips had a double-double of 11 kills and 15 digs. Devon Lucero, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, had 28 assists.
Â
Pacific gave the Tigers a shock early in the opener, going up 3-0 on a kill by Rewick and two attack errors. The home team rebounded to take as much as a two-point lead before the Boxers went back up three, 16-13, on a Tigers' attack error. Colorado College took the lead for good at 18-17 on a Pacific setting error before moving on to the 25-20 win.
Â
Colorado College never trailed in the second, going ahead 12-7 on Courtney Birkett's kill and 17-9 on a block by Kristen Liberty and Birkett. The Boxers closed back to within 21-16 on
Una Areta's (Fr., Kent, Wash.) kill, but the effort was not enough as the Tigers went on to the 25-17 win.
Â
Pacific built a 7-3 lead on a Farnham service ace to open the third set, but the Tigers can back to within one point, 11-10, on a Holtze kill and took a 14-13 lead on a block by Lauren Hahn and Kaimara Herron-July. The Boxers stayed within two points until a run of four points late, two the result of Pacific attack errors, provided the cushion needed to complete the sweep.
Â
Pacific now returns home to prepare for their season opener. The Boxers will host Northwest Christian on Wednesday at 7 p.m., in the Stoller Center. Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at GoBoxers.com.
