Â
After a tight start in the first set, Pacific pulled ahead 12-8 on Areta's kill. The Boxers held the narrow until Boland's put away tied the set at 24-24. UMass Boston forced two Pacific errors after that to close out the 26-24 victory.
Â
The second set was also a close battle, with the Boxers taking the lead for good when Rewick's block made it a 15-14 frame. A string of three Beacons' attack errors allowed Pacific a 23-18 lead and kills by Areta and Rewick made it a 25-22 win.
Â
The two teams were within a point until
Kylee Oshiro (So., Aiea, Hawaii) served Pacific to four winners, including three on attack errors, to open up a 10-7 lead. The Beacons managed to pull within 16-15, but the Boxers managed to win nine of the final 11 rallies. Steach put down a kill for a 20-15 lead and a block by
Mariah McHolland (Sr., Renton, Wash.) and Areta punctuated the 25-17 win.
Â
After holding an early three-point lead in the fourth set, UMass Boston pulled ahead 19-16 on Elizabeth Glavan's service ace. The lead would hold as the Beacons closed out the 25-20 win on an ace from Christine DuPuis.
Â
Pacific built an 8-6 lead in the fifth set before a string of three errors allowed the Beacons back in at 11-9.  Pacific led 13-12 before kills by Murphy and Kirsten Morrison put the Beacons in position to win. Rewick tied it with her kill at 14-14 before a Boland kill and another DuPuis service ace ended it.
