Defense Secures Draw In Boxers Season Opener
Box Score
FOREST GROVE – The Pacific women's soccer team held their own in 0-0 draw with Hamline Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Lincoln Park Stadium.
"We are extremely pleased with the outcome," said Associate head coach Dane Joseph. "Hamline is a good team and they were writing from their loss last night. But our young team dug in and found ways to dominate on shots, corners, and possessions."
Â
There was little action in the first half. There were only two shots with the first coming from
Emily Tuffey (Jr., Valencia, Calif.) but was ruled wide. The second shot was at the 35-minute mark by
Holly Chang-Northway (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) who took her first shot as a Boxer, but was well over the goal.
Â
More action was involved in the second half as the Boxers and Pipers both shot six times, but was not enough to secure a victory in regulation.
Â
Heading into the first overtime period, Hamline took the only two shots in the last eight minutes, but was wide and saved by Boxer goalkeeper
Kayla Davidson (Sr., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii).
Â
Boxer defense was solid in the final overtime period as they held the Pipers to one shot in the final minute of the game. The Boxers shot twice, but once again was too wide.
Â
Kayla Davidson tallied six saves in her first start of the season. Hamline's goalkeeper Molly Jacobs recorded four saves. The Boxers collected 10 shots and four shots on goal.
Kara Lankey (Fr., La Canada, Calif.) led the Boxers with three shots.
"Kara and Emily were absolutely brilliant," Joseph said. "If they keep that up, they will be unstoppable. And when McKenna comes back, it's going to be very hard for others. But Kudos to everyone today for their effort and willingness to work the game-plan."
Â
The Boxers will take on Howard Payne on Monday, Sept. 2 at 4:30 p.m. for more non-conference action.
